I think this is with little doubt a font issue. You're describing what you get when a glyph doesn't exist in the chosen font. This can also apply to the font used in the Story Editor. I just tried ? and ? in 1.4.5 directly into the frame and also in Story Editor, and no problem with either. I'm using a compose key in KDE, by the way. Greg
