The ability to go to preferences/fonts and mark fonts as unwanted exists in 1.4.X but not in 1.5.x So I deleted many of the unwanted fonts, deleted the scribus150.rc file, and reran my nightly compile of 1.5.*. The scribus150.rc file was recreated with the deleted fonts missing. But how do I establish my favorite font as the default in the story editor? Shuffling the font references in scribus150.rc didn't work. Scribus still insists on handling fonts in alpha order, with the top dog being aGaramond Italic. So for my next trick I will create a link to my favorite font in the /usr/share/fonts/ttf file with the name of aaaLiberationSerif.ttf. That may work or it may not. Stay tuned. Thanks to all who participated in this thread. My ultimate solution may not be one that was suggested but the solutions proposed educated me on the mechanisms in play.
