It seems as if Craigs e-mail got some kind of autoformatting of the URL entered so it was turned into a clickable link (including the http:// part).
When doing a ping the parameter to the command skall be a host address (symbolical name or IP-adress). A host address does not include http:// or https://, it should just be the name of the server, in this wiki<dot>scribus<dot>net.
