Dear JL,
I am not active in this communtiy so please take this personal opinion
with some grains of salt.
But a GUI oriented tool like Scribus, with its potential and already
excellent track record, would be wise to focus on also handling larger
documents as the level of profesional usage increases.
Sure I can script in bash, Python and a number of other languages, but
that is nice if you're a developer.
Scribus needs also to be used by average joe DTP users. Otherwise it
really has no future.
My 2 cents of course.
Regards and happy weekend to all.

I do anything - I can send a screen video of it if you like. But
counting it takes 15 seconds before any mouse click has an action.
Even bringing up a dialogue box causes the ball to appear and about 5
seconds delay before the window is populated.
48pp A4 magazine with a lot of images. I have played with different
image cache setting but nothing seems to make any difference. I even
disabled cache and that made no difference
In case you use a HD you could use a SSD
or add somme RAM to your computer.
You could also split this document in a set of shorts documents
and concatenate the PDFs afterward.
In case interested in long term solutions
see https://github.com/JLuc/scribus-project-manager
It's a set of linux shell scripts i use to manage
all sorts of chapters related issues.
It enables to work efficiently with very long resulting documents.
