I'm not sure that's necessarily a fair assertion. I have access
to commercial compilers, and I choose to use SDCC for mcs51 projects
simply because I like it better. I know quite a few people for whom
this is also the case. People who use free software aren't simply
doing so because they're cheap. (just my $0.02)
