The next major step will be a new register allocator (being developed in
the optralloc branch, probably to be merged in a week or two). The
current prototype already gives an about 10% code size reduction at the
cost of slightly higher compile time. It has a command-line parameter
allowing for a trade-off between code quality and compile time.
