Plant Fennel or dill very near the fig tree, because the flowers attract tiny 
wasps that pollinate the figs. lat-topped buckwheat (a native) might work as 
well as the fennel or dill to attract beneficial wasps (Hypotheis). You might 
also plant a "sacrificial" fruiting mulberry tree in the vicinity to lure birds 
away from the figs. Birds love mulberry fruits more than they love most other 
fruits.
