In early 2011 I had this great idea! I was going to start the San Diego Rails group. I did a few google searches and didn't notice "SDRuby" show up as the 2nd search result (the first was the San Diego MTS). Besides, what was Ruby anyway? I was interested in Rails! I promptly formed the meetup group and attracted a few supporters and thought that I had landed on a real opportunity.
Ben Hughes (and Jimmy and Gary) came to that first meetup on Jan 13th, 2011 and showed me this little screen shot of a comment I posted him: http://cl.ly/1q3S2k2E1O3I2m031a22 back in the day. It reminded me of how awesome our SDRuby community is in including, coaching and helping those around us. Due to no small part Patrick Crowley (@mokolabs) plays to lead, inspire and show us the ways of the Ruby Community. When he heard about "SDRails", he chose not to wield his power, but rather came along side me, gently patted me on the head like a father to his son, and said, "Now now my son, see those kids playing over there? Why don't you go play with them rather?" Turns out I did and I've had the best time ever since then. Thank you Patrick. Etienne p.s. Patrick didn't die. This tribute is addressed to the living. -- SD Ruby mailing list [email protected] http://groups.google.com/group/sdruby
