I was a Java developer, and I am now transitioning to Ruby and/on Rails. I went through Code Academy here in Chicago to help me focus and become more ingrained in the Ruby community here.
A lot of the other students were new to development, so there were a lot of things that could not be covered in detail. One topic that was skimmed over was testing. I have mentioned that I would like to start an RSpec study group here, and I would like some advice on how to go about it. (I should probably call it a "Ruby Testing Study Group", but I first used the term "RSpec Study Group", and it kind of stuck.) One possibility is to have some people go through "The RSpec Book", perhaps covering a chapter a week or something like that. The disadvantage is that if someone misses a week, they might be left behind by the rest. One person suggested meeting one a week, and perhaps for the first week go over a chapter in "The RSpec Book", the next week having a hack night where the group writes some tests for someone's project/app, and perhaps a third week someone could give a lecture/Q&A about their thoughts on testing (there seem to be a lot of strong opinions out there). Does anyone have any thoughts/advice? - Eric MacAdie -- SD Ruby mailing list [email protected] http://groups.google.com/group/sdruby
