I recently deployed a production app to Digital Ocean after previously
having it on Heroku. I ran into a bug and wanted to look at the production
log to get some context.
Aaack! The production log was completely empty!
I re-checked all the configuration settings for the production environment
and the Capistrano deployment -- nothing there. I even hit up Bensie for
some expert advice, but still no joy.
Googling the issue ("nginx passenger rails production log empty") returned
this:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21670173/production-log-empty-on-rails-4-capistrano-passenger-nginx-server-digital
This was the fix, as described in the SO post: remove the Heroku-specific
*rails_12factor* gem. Voila, production logging working again.
If you encounter this same issue you'll have a leg up on fixing it.
Cheers,
Chris
