I spent a year as a nomad, although I was doing hourly consulting instead
of building a product. Luckily the work I had then (and still do) is very
asynchronous & thus conducive to travel. I'm also pretty serious into
"travel hacking" and this was partly an expression of that hobby and the
opportunities that it presented last year.

I didn't work anywhere near full time and leaned a bit more on
traveling/exploring, but was able to stay afloat financially with
consulting work. It is indeed possible to travel & live very cheaply,
especially in places like Southeast Asia.

"I was surprised to find out that I’m significantly more productive while
traveling."

I think this varies from person-to-person but it was absolutely true for
me. There's something about the energy of moving around that's very
focus-inducing. I'm very productive on airplanes even - some of my most
effective days have been spent mileage running back-and-forth across the
country sitting on a plane the whole day.

It really is a incredible time in human history that one can make a decent
income from anywhere in the world moving their fingers for a few hours a
day on top of a thin metal device. If you find yourself in that place in
your life, I'd definitely recommend taking advantage of it, even if it's
just for 3-6 months. I wouldn't do it indefinitely, but the year I spent
nomading was the best in my life.
