Hi Folks,
We'd like to have a presence at GeekGirl again this year (
http://sandiego.geekgirltechcon.com). The event is one day, June 20th.
Last year we came to it a little late still managed to have 4 or 5
volunteers and give one intro talk. We had a blast. This year, I'd love to
get a whole track going and increase the number of volunteers. Let me know
if you're interested in any of the following:

1) Giving a talk or workshop

2) Hanging out at the booth and answering questions

3) Helping out at the hackfest.

Last year we did this talk
Rails and Ruby Taster (BEG/INT)

You may have heard of Rails, the web framework that took the internet by
storm in 2005. Come get a taste of what Rails is, how Ruby works as a
language and get pointed at resources to learn more. *Prerequisites:* A
passion to learn and a laptop to follow along. Some HTML/CSS exposure would
be helpful but not required.

Last year the Python folks did all this (see below). I'm not saying we
need to top them or that it is a competition, I'm just saying we should
keep up.
Programming with Python I (BEG)

>From 3D animation films to popular websites to medical education, Python is
noted as a versatile programming language. This workshop introduces
participants to concepts applicable to many programming languages. For this
workshop, we’ll be using Python to demonstrate basic concepts such as
numbers and math, comparisons, if statements, and for loops. *Prerequisites: A
curious mind and passion to learn more about programming with Python. Some
HTML/CSS exposure would be helpful but not required. We encourage you to
bring your laptops for hands-on participation; volunteers will be on hand
to help you out in setting up your Python work environment.*
Programming with Python II (BEG/INT)

Following the format of the highly successful Boston Python Workshop, this
workshop builds on the introductory concepts of Python. The basics of
functions, modules, scripting, and reading/writing to files. *Prerequisites: A
passion to learn and a laptop to follow along. Some HTML/CSS exposure would
be helpful but not required. We encourage you to bring your laptops for
hands-on participation; volunteers will be on hand to help you out in
setting up your Python work environment.*
Programming with Python III (INT/ADV)

We’ll finish up the series of programming with functions and classes. We’ll
pull together all the core concepts of Python and data types in a
satisfying simple yet useful application. We’ll wrap up the day with
information on next steps and using Python to support your interests. We’ll
also share information about the resources available in the Python
community. *Prerequisites: A passion to learn and a laptop to follow
along. Some HTML/CSS exposure would be helpful but not required. We
encourage you to bring your laptops for hands-on participation; volunteers
will be on hand to help you out in setting up your Python work environment.*
