*What is Railsbridge?*

The Railsbridge Workshop for Women is a FREE day and a half workshop, set
up with the goal of increasing diversity in the tech community by teaching
women and other minorities Ruby and Ruby on Rails. The motivation behind
Railsbridge is ‘the belief that the people making technology should
accurately reflect the diversity of those using it!’

We aim for all kinds of diversity in tech: gender, race, sexual
orientation, ability, and class and are emphatically LGBTQQIP2SAA friendly.
Any level of experience is accepted and encouraged, from “I have never
coded before” to “I’ve been programming for years and want to see what is
up with this Ruby on Rails thing.” By the end of the workshop, students
have an application on the internet that connects to a database and reads
and writes information.

*What do volunteers do?*

Volunteers Can:

   - Teach a class!
      - Don’t worry, we provide the curriculum, which you can check out
      here: http://docs.railsbridge.org/intro-to-rails/
      - And we’ll have a training session before the workshop to make sure
      all teachers are ready!

   - TA a class!
      - If you don’t want to be center stage, no worries, we need your help
keeping an eye on the students’ progress and helping students when they
get
      stuck!

   - Guide participants in getting their dev environment installed during
   the Installfest!

   - Help us eat and drink free food and beer!
      - That’s right - we provide pizza and beer on Friday evening and
breakfast and lunch on Sunday! Not to mention a free round of drinks at
the
      afterparty!
      - And there’s onsite childcare for any students and volunteers that
      want it!

Becoming a Railsbridge Volunteer is easy - just sign up on the Railsbridge
SD registration page: https://www.bridgetroll.org/events/247

*Opportunities are also available for Railsbridge Sponosrship! *

Railsbridge SD runs on sponsorship - the teaching, meals, childcare, and
afterparty are all possible because of our sponsors!

Sponsoring Railsbridge is a great way to get your company’s name out to the
community and to demonstrate that you value diversity in the tech industry!

Shout Out to our sponsors: DeskHub, LEARN academy, Dev Bootcamp, and SD
Ruby!

If YOU want to add your name to that list, please email Lisa (
[email protected])!

*Help Us Spread the Word! *

workshop, encourage them to sign up at:
https://www.bridgetroll.org/events/247! Those not of an under-represented
group can also join but ONLY as a guest of the workshop’s target population!
