Hi Folks, Time for another awesome SDRuby, spring cleaning edition: RAILS AND ANGLAR Ryan Rusnak explains how writing JavaScript in a Rails application takes a back seat to pretty much every other part of the stack. However, with user expectations of how the web should function rising, Rails developers need to have the right tools to create a modern web application that is scalable, flexible and meets the needs of the user. This talk will go over a scalable way to write JavaScript in Rails that approaches front end development with the same attention to detail that we give to other parts of the stack.
COMMANDS, SERVICES AND LOGIC: AN ACTION-BASED CLASS DESIGN FOR BIG RAILS APPS Brad Urani is joining us from Satna Barbara to talk about writing clean code and keeping classes small. As your Rails app grows, that becomes impossible while staying within the bounds of Model-View-Controller. The Rails Way says we should push our logic down into the models, but do we really want our models to have hundreds of lines of code in them? Join us as we go beyond MVC adding new layers of object-oriented design that shrink classes, increase testability and provide clear templates for junior team members to follow. LIGHTNING TALKS We still have a few slots open for lightning talks. Feel free to sign up here: http://bit.ly/1Nsq9g8 (Google Form). Lightning talks are 5 minutes and a great chance to dip your toes in if you've always wanted to talk at SDRuby, but haven't had the chance to yet. RAFFLE We'll be giving away a few ebooks, software licenses, etc, using our shiny new Rafflr! AFTERPARTY After the meeting, we'll head over to Rock Bottom Brewery for a round or two of drinks sponsored by Airspace Technologies <http://airspacetechnologies.com>. .... DIRECTIONS Meeting are held on the UCSD campus, at 7:30pm, on the first Thursday of the month. If you plan to drive, follow the directions below and make sure to get a parking pass. Map to UCSD => http://tinyurl.com/2f486e VOLUNTEER We've been talking for a few months now about having someone help with SDRuby's communications... but we haven't found time to get the email out about it. This is your chance to join the leadership at SDRuby. We're looking for someone to take ownership of keeping meetup.com, the mailing list and Twitter up to date along with answering logistics questions (how do I get to the meeting? can I bring my dog? that kind of thing). If you're interested please email me off list. SPEAK AT THE NEXT MEETING Wanna talk at our next meeting? Have a topic you want someone else to talk about? Post a proposal to SDRuby.org. We'll get you on the books. -- -- SD Ruby mailing list [email protected] http://groups.google.com/group/sdruby --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "SD Ruby" group.
