Is it just me, or did July fly by? August is already here, and that means it's time for another fabulous SD Ruby Meetup! You can RSVP for the Meetup here: http://www.meetup.com/sdruby/events/231080294/
FEATURED TALK FOR AUGUST: Brad Urani from Procore - "Jaywalking in Traffic: Safe Migrations at Scale" At scale, easy things become hard. Migrations, especially, can become dangerously unpredictable if you don't understand the traps inherent. This talk will cover problems that occur with migrations at scale, and what to do about them. We'll talk about the ActiveRecord schema cache and how to reset it, and about Postgres locking and how it can take down your site. We'll see which types of migrations require downtime and which ones don't, and what order your migrations need to run in to make them safe. Whether you operate at scale or not, this talk will teach you plenty about Rails, databases, and how to avoid catastrophe the next time you deploy. LIGHTNING TALKS We still have a few slots open for lightning talks. Feel free to sign up here: http://bit.ly/1Nsq9g8 (Google Form). Lightning talks are 5 minutes and a great chance to dip your toes in if you've always wanted to talk at SDRuby, but haven't had the chance to yet. RAFFLE We'll be giving away a few ebooks, software licenses, etc, using our super fun Rafflr! AFTERPARTY After the meeting, we'll head over to Rock Bottom Brewery for a round or two of drinks sponsored by Procore. .... DIRECTIONS Meetings are held on the UCSD campus, at 7:30pm, on the first Thursday of the month. If you plan to drive, follow the directions below and make sure to get a parking pass.
