I prefer to use a Mac as well. Traditionally, ruby has had a fair number of
issues with Windows. However, I hear very positive things from the new(ish)
Windows Subsytem for Linux. A co-worker is currently running and is happy
with it. You should be able to use any Linux distro you like. If you don't
know any, Ubuntu seems like a good choice to me.
