Have had this mentioned a few times. One of the specific implementations
mentioned in Shane's Webinar was CommonJ. Ideally the way to implement this
would be to implement against the spec as a single "Cron
Scheduling/Asynchronous Provider", then allow users to supply their own JSR-237
provider at runtime.
We should have tests against a number of JSR-237 providers to ensure proper
compatibility.
