Hantsy, what you have in the example is a bi-directional Many to Many. The only 
way to correctly save a bi-directional Many to Many. In that case you *must* 
set both sides of the relationship to maintain consistency and avoid 
corruption. If this were changed to a unidirectional Many to Many it would work 
the way you are expecting. This is all plain JPA, Seam isn't changing any of 
these
