How would you compare it to the 21st Century Soul from a few years back ? I
found that a bit overproduced and as we say on the list 'jazz noodles lite'.

I think its out today.

Mornin' all!

A quick one to say that I just got sent the new As One LP on
Ubiquityand it's excellent - very soulful - but not in a brittle,
trying to be soulful way - it's deep! Kind of on an IG Culture tip
IMO.

Not sure when it's out here - but I think a lot of list peeps will
like it! - it's called ' Out Of The Darkness'.

Best

D.

P.S. Sorry if this has already been covered on the list, I keep
having to apologise for my f*cked up short term memory and it's
starting to do my head in!

RE: (313) New As One LP

2004-10-25 Thread dan

I haven't actually heard 21st century soul - so can't really comment on it.

I suppose you could call it overproduced in that the LP doesn't have
the roughness or simplicity of say a UR track, but I like his
musical ideas - he has lots of good ones - and doesn't let them get
out of control, so in that sense I would say that it's not
overproduced or noodly - there is some quantity control going on
rather than unrestrained noodling.

Having said all this, I really like the Offworld LP on Far Out, so
maybe my opinions on Jazz Noodling should be taken with a pinch of
salt

There was talk but no confirmation so this is good Dan.

Did you get it on vinyl? What's it like? Good weight? Same tracks as cd?

Can't wait either way.
