[AI] Modern gadgets to improve teaching by visually challenged
TNN | Mar 25, 2013 http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/madurai/Modern-gadgets-to-improve-teaching-by-visually-challenged/articleshow/19177299.cms MADURAI: To keep abreast of latest technologies that enhance teaching, the visually challenged teachers under the banner of Blind Teachers Association (BTA), Madurai Branch, arranged a special technical session for their members. More than 300 visually challenged teachers are members of the branch that has jurisdiction from Karur to Kanyakumari districts and 90 of them from Madurai and nearby districts participated in the workshop held on Saturday. Pune-based innovation company, Persion Technologies, announced during the event that it will come out with an interactive whiteboard for blind teachers by next month. Kiran Deshpande, director of the innovation and applications wing at the company, said the whiteboards will display whatever one keys into a laptop. The company will be also offering the device at comparatively cheaper prices, he informed. V Elangovan, BTA chairman, observed that the teaching technology is changing fast and the education department too adopts lot of such technologies into teaching. "We feel that we should be adequately prepared for the technologies in the market. The response from our teachers was very enthusiastic," he said. At the worshop, teaching-aids developed by the Pune firm were demonstrated. An input-cum display device helps to feed all standard shapes, charts, scientific and mathematical symbols in any standard application. A Braille embosser for printing ordinary books into the Braille and a scanner device that reads out the printed sheets were also found useful for blind teachers. "The general challenge we face during the class room is the control of students because we can't see the activities of the students in a class. Using such modern equipment will help to increase the involvement of students," said M Kalidoss, a history teacher in Kodukkampatti High School in Madurai. Nicholas Francis, director of Helen Keller Talking Library, who inaugurated the workshop, remarked that the visually challenged are the pioneers in utilising modern technologies among the differently abled community. "The visually challenged teachers should not be left behind with technological advancements and should strive hard to learn these scientific tools," he said. Elangovan said that the association is planning to hold similar workshops in Tirunelveli in the coming days for the benefit of blind teachers from Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts. -- Avinash Shahi MPhil Research Scholar Centre for the Study of Law and Governance Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi India Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. [AI] Navigating in yahoo mails.
Dear friends, Today I'd like to share a small but an informative artical with you people. Specially for those people who are having any kind of problem with yahoo mails. If you're referring to the new Yahoo Mail with the applications mode enabled, there is a way for you to switch back. If you change your display settings to a resolution of 800 by 600, then open up your Yahoo Mail in one of the internet browsers, like Internet Explorer, it will automatically revert back to internet layout. I should note that this is the resolution that the gentleman from my ISP told me about, though he wasn't supposed to. I am actually unsure of what minimum resolution it takes without setting back to the new Yahoo mail. In any case, if you want to play around with your computer resolution, feel free to do so and possibly report back, but, as I said, this will switch you back and never ask you to go into the new Yahoo mail ever again. Once it's back to the old style, it's just like accessing your web mail the traditional way. Pressing the letter L until you hear List of 5 items, or, if you have Jaws set to not report the start of lists, pressing the letter L will eventually take you to the inbox link which you can enter on. Once there, press the number 1 on your number row to move to the one and only level 1 heading, then pressing the number 2 on the number row will take you to the subject line of the first message in the table. As you may or may not know, your inbox is displayed in the form of a data table, with a check box being in the first cell in column 1, row 1, which, if checked, selects all the messages, but from row 2 and down, this checkbox simply selects the message, then another checkbox to flag all the messages in column 2, row 1, then the sender in column 3, followed by the subject line in column 4, and finally the date column in column 5. If the message has an attachment, there will be an extra column between the sender and the subject line columns which will be clickable to go straight to the attachment. In any case, when you press the number 2 on the number row, Jaws bypasses the header row and goes directly to the subject line of the first message. From that point, you can keep hitting the number 2 to move down the list of messages, or you can use your table reading commands of control+alt+ the arrow keys to move up, down, left or right one cell. Alternatively, you can simply hit the up or down keys to move along the row to the left or right respectively. If you want to open up a message, just enter on the subject line, and, on the resulting page, press the number 1 on the number row to go directly to the message header, then the down arrow to move through the message headers, and, eventually, through the body of the message. Now, you'll have to go into the options on web mail to configure how you want your messages displayed, the number of messages per page, whether you want the recent messages at the top or bottom of the list, and finally, what you want the site to do when you're finished with a message and you delete it or move it, or mark it as spam, which will either open up the next message in the list, or go back to the list of messages. I should note that this does not denote the entire range of options within Yahoo Mail's web mail configuration, only the options regarding reading your messages, but you have to make sure you save your settings when you're done, which is at the bottom of the page on every screen. There are options for configuring away messages, bulk mail folders and the like, and, if enabled, pop forwarding, or just plain forwarding of your messages to another account. There is a trick you need to observe though. At the top of the page in the tab order, where it says options, if you enter on the options link, it may appear to do nothing, but in actuality, another menu below it has opened, and you must arrow down to the link named, "Mail Options" and enter on it. This will take you to your options. Anyway, I wasn't sure if you were asking how to use Yahoo's web mail interface, or how to correct the accidental activation of the new Yahoo Mail. in addition to this you can also use mobile version of yahoo mails just m.yahoo.com In any case, I hope I've answered your questions. -- if you can dream it,you can do it. Hi Dear! I am making frequent transections with online SBI but I am not facing any problem of this kind, yes! there is only 1 other mobile from which I am getting the same message many times. This is because mal-functioning from the sender's side, you just contact the SBI Mumbai, only they can resolve the problem. I am providing you some numbers, you just contact them and they'll solve it. Its a server problem, SBI has setup more than 1 server messaging and this creates this type of problem. Re: [AI] information required for neft interbanking transfer in s b i required.
The book you read is not on their list you sent on drop box. Is the BT catalogue you sent the latest? -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Apoorv Kulkarni Sent: 24 March 2013 21:55 To: Accessindia Subject: [AI] Indian audiobook start-up brings Indian best sellers for you Dear all, I recently came across a Bangalore based start-up called, Books Talk. This company publishes audiobooks of reputed Indian and foreign titles. I just finished "The Secrets of the Nagas" by Amish Tripathi published by Books talk, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I recommend taking a look at their catalogue of audiobooks. The audiobooks are in English, Bengali and Kanada. These titles cost between INR 99 to 499. You can download the catalogue from the link given in this mail. https://www.dropbox.com/s/w7gug6tkija2e0b/bT%20catalogue%20Feb%2013%202013. x ls?m Regards and happy listening Apoorv Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessin dia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe.
