Hey Rahul Bhaiya, Jaws OCR cannot be used for scanning Hindi or any Indian language. However, there is a good OCR for Hindi, Marathi and other Indian languages. Get in touch with Sparsh Products and Karishma Enterprises, to see who provides the best quote. It is within the range of 15-20, and accuracy wise it is around 80-90% good. This OCR however cannot be used with camera scanners, so you need to have a normal scanner in place. P.s. I have not used it personally, so whatever I have stated above is based on the user feedback which I have got from people. So try fully before you buy! Trust all is well otherwise. Re: [AI] Reading pdf image with jaws 15
To answer some things which I believe have been not answered fully. 1. You can only use the Document OCR feature on a document if it is in the PDF format. 2. For all other window's where you need to do the OCR, you cannot scan the entire document at once be it an image or anything else for that matter. However, the other options to scan the Window, Screen and Control (introduced in earlier Jaws versions starting from Jaws 13) are available. 3. As a result of OCR, you are bound to lose the formatting of the text, so please be careful while pasting the same into a document from virtual viewer. 4. Since Jaws uses FS Omnipage for OCR, it works decent in terms of giving OCR processed text. 5. Total 44 languages are supported by Jaws OCR, the prominent ones being French, German and Spanish amongst others. Time Saver Tip: if you know that the PDF you are dealing with is a text, then instead of reading the whole PDF just ask Adobe to read the current pages (change the option from edit menu> change reading options) and use the Document OCR feature to scan the entire document even though Adobe has not processed all the pages. Feel free to shoot questions if any! Regards, -- Amar Jain. Website: www.amarjain.com Clean India Campaign: Let us also chip in! Re: [AI] Reading pdf image with jaws 15
This is what given as per the newly introduced OCR feature in jaws16. Hope this will clear your doubt. Enhanced Convenient OCR for PDF Documents The Convenient OCR (Optical Character Recognition) feature now allows you to recognize entire PDF documents. Convenient OCR was first introduced in JAWS 13 and allows you to recognize any images visible on the screen in order to access text contained in the image that would normally be inaccessible to JAWS. This included inaccessible PDF documents where you could only recognize the currently visible text. In JAWS 16, if you open a PDF document and you do not find any text to read, press INSERT+SPACEBAR, O to access the OCR layer and then press the letter D. JAWS begins recognizing the text of the entire document featuring a very high degree of accuracy as the results are not affected by the curretn screen resolution, as they are when recognizing the current screen or window. After several seconds, the contents of the PDF file are displayed in the Results Viewer for reading. Use standard reading commands to review the text or select and copy sections of content for pasting in other applications. For example, you could select all, then copy and paste into a Microsoft Word document, which you could then save. Note: The OCR process takes longer for larger PDF files. As text is recognized, it is added to the end of the existing text already in the Results Viewer. This allows you to continue reading without interruption as the document is processed. If you are currently not reading using Say All, JAWS announces the current line as new text is added to the Results Viewer to indicate that OCR is still in progress. - Original Message - From: "George Abraham" To: "'AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerningthe disabled.'"
