JR- spaces in directory/filenames in dsm.opt file
O/S: Windows and NetWare If I have spaces in the directory or filename that is explicitly mentioned in the dsm.opt file I need to surround it with double quotes. Correct? e.g. include "c:\program files\abc\xgz\...\*" include "c:\data\my db.sql" Do I need to surround a directory or filename that contains spaces but is not explicitly mentioned in the dsm.opt file but is in the path to be backed up? e.g. include c:\...\* Note: The c drive contains files and directories that have spaces in them. thanks

Re: TDP for Oracle 32-bit and 64-bit
Hi Ram ! If you desire to backup Oracle 32 bits...you then need TDP and TSM API 32 bits version. If you desire to backup Oracle 64 bits...you then need TDP and TSM API 64 bits version. In your case, you will have to install the TDP 32 and 64 bits as well as TSM API 32 and 64 bits. There is no issue having both bits version on the same machine. You will use different user with different dsmi configuration in the user envoironment. >From SysBack... = Customers will see all software that they are *entitled / licensed* to obtain in the Passport Advantage website when they login. Because 5.6.0.0 is pretty back level, it is possible that distribution has removed that specific level - but I doubt it. All entitled customers should have access to download at least the 5.6.5.0 level from Passport Advantage. If you believe that you should have access to that code and do not see it in Passport Advantage to download, please contact your sales rep to investigate the problem. IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for System Backup & Recovery - SysBack is not a free component of TSM. Some customers may not realize that purchasing an "enterprise" version of TSM does not automatically get them SysBack. Also, the latest level of SysBack - to fully support AIX 5.3 - is version 5.6.6.1. Customers using a 5.6 level lower than 5.6.6.1 should go to the TSM ftp / patch server and download the 5.6.6.1 patch level to apply to their existing installation. You are licensed for Sysback, right? It is a different and separate license from TSM. Once I log into Passport Advantage, there is a download page that shows me all the products I am entitled to. Sysback shows up there. There is both a Download and a Order Media button on that page. Linux 5.3 client
The Linux 5.3 client README says: "- The TSM client does not support the default locale for Linux, en_US.UTF-8. There may be some files that cannot be backed up with the default locale, causing error messages in the dsmerror log and the backup operation to stop. To avoid this problem, set the locale LC_ALL to en_US or another supported locale, for example 'export LC_ALL=en_US'." Can this export be issued as a preschedulecmd or is there someplace else it should be issued? David

Do a "smitty sysback" -> TSM Configuration -> TSM Backup Management -> Remove a TSM Backup Image -> select your TSM virtual device . You'll get a list of current backups. Check to see if any are still open. If so, select it ((Esc 7) and then press Enter to remove it. Then retry your backup. tape utility for sony ait-2, anyone?
Hello, I've been trying to access our Sony ait-2 drives using the ibm ntutil.exe, to no avail. ntutil doesn't recognize the tape drives. OK, so I concluded that it only works for IBM drives. Is this correct? I downloaded and installed the Sony tape drive utility - which claims that there are no Sony tape drives around (although it sees the devices on the SCSI bus and even shows their identification as Sony SDX 500C). I suspect it works only if I install the Sony tape driver. Oh, and yes, I shutdown the TSM server before trying to access the tape drives. Any ideas how to proceed? Yeah, LPARs are just about perfect for this purpose, especially once you get dynamic allocation. The test installation can mutter along taking up .1 CPU until you actually need it. My test server is currently a B50 in a different rack. Terrific for some purposes, but not ... snappy. :) - Allen S. Rout - Our 570s should be deployed soon.

Yeah, based on your and Allen's responses, it sounds like I definitely need to re-think how I'm going to go about this. We've got a test partition and I'm already set up for library manager server and clients, so I think that's clearly the way I need to go. Thanks for your advice guys! Bill

Instead of multiple versions on the same server, could you run different versions on separate LPARS in a library client/manager arrangement ? I do run multiple servers on one AIX partition but they are on the same level. -Original Message- From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Allen S. The idea of copying around the TSM server code directories, and then installing another code level on top of them, gives me the heebie-jeebies something awful. Gentoo Linux provides for multiple code levels installed side by side. AIX... doesn't. :) I would be surprised to find that this configuration was supported, for a list of reasons beginning with the paragraph you'd need to respond to "TSM level?". How do you expect you would upgrade code bases other than the one the LPP installation thinks is installed? I'd suggest running a MKSYSB of your test server and experimenting there. That way, if you encounter serious problems you won't be too badly discommoded. And if you meet with success, I'd say "Keen!" and never try it on my own production boxen. - Allen S. Rout - Hm. decrease in return tapes
Folks, Lately, I have noticed that our weekly return of tapes from our storage facility has decreased from about 120 tapes to about 40 tapes. Can anybody point me in the right direction to investigate possible problems? Thanks! DaveZ

Hi, Some kind of expiration would be 'expire inventory' and 'help expire inventory', that should be run on a daily basis. Check your admin schedules. Re: status full and pct_reclaim 100%
Hi, - Q content -> should say "no data" - audit vol fix=yes The tapes should get status scratch, or empty if defined in a storage pool. TSM 5.3 "feature"
Hi, ITSM 5.3.1.2 server on AIX 5.3. We are running a script to get our standard processes done on a daily base. One of the new features in ITSM server 5.3 is Migrate STGpool. Now, in our case not all stg pools are getting data in them on a daily base. So, some of the storage will not have anything to migrate. The following message is what I get: 7/26/2005 10:06:24 AM ANR4924E MIGRATE STGPOOL: Migration is not needed for the storage pool Why the E and not an I or W? The schedule in turn is marked as failed. Not good for management reports. Regards, Karel _ Karel Bos Technical Expert level 5 Atos Origin Nederland B.V.
