Yes, there is a problem, it's called an addiction to the ADSM-listserv. You should seek counseling ;-) Jk. Re: different cartridge sizes in one library
Yes, and remember to put the smaller drives at the head of the line in the library. That way the smaller tapes can move up to the smaller drives and the larger ones will stay at the bottom. I've noted over time that TSM will use the drives in order from 01 down, and if you have the larger ones at the top then the smaller tapes make take up the drive bays. We currently have a mix of LTO2 and LTO3 drives. Re: SV: Problem with Journaling
Hi Thanks for that, some product this TSM. I have an issue with journaling on our file server. Last Tuesday the file server backup started to take 16 hours to run. We have journaling setup on the server to prevent this. On investigation the server seems to be inspecting 1.2 million files and only backing up 5 to 6 thousand which would indicate some problem with journaling on one of the drives. How do I find what caused the journaling to end. 11/12/2009 15:52:46 ANE4952I (Session: 197714, Node: DSPRWC) Total number of objects inspected: 1,202,293 (SESSION: 197714) 11/12/2009 15:52:46 ANE4954I (Session: 197714, Node: DSPRWC) Total number of objects backed up:6,626 (SESSION: 197714) 11/12/2009 15:52:46 ANE4958I (Session: 197714, Node: DSPRWC) Total number of objects updated: 0 (SESSION: 197714) 11/12/2009 15:52:46 ANE4960I (Session: 197714, Node: DSPRWC) Total number of objects rebound: 0 (SESSION: 197714) 11/12/2009 15:52:46 ANE4957I (Session: 197714, Node: DSPRWC) Total number of objects deleted: 0 (SESSION: 197714) 11/12/2009 15:52:46 ANE4970I (Session: 197714, Node: DSPRWC) Total number of objects expired: 2,785 (SESSION: 197714) 11/12/2009 15:52:46 ANE4959I (Session: 197714, Node: DSPRWC) Total number of objects failed: 4 (SESSION: 197714) 11/12/2009 15:52:46 ANE4965I (Session: 197714, Node: DSPRWC) Total number of subfile objects: 0 (SESSION: 197714) more... Hi Wellington, Is anything showing up on your TSM Server actlog at the same time? I'm wondering if you have enough mount points allocated for that client node (e.g. UPDATE NODE NODE_TDPO MAXNUMMP=4). Also, for RAC config best practices, check out this useful article from IBM.COM: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21260228 I'm working on a similar config for a customer at the moment on Linux, works a treat using this method. Re: TDP for Oracle in AIX - Problem
But, I need to allocate two channels coz it Oracle 9i RAC DB(2 nodes)... That statement doesn't ring true with me - cards on the table, I'm not a DBA (so I may be missing a finer point of your Oracle config), but from working with quite a few RAC DB backups (and restores) using RMAN/TDPO over the years that's something that doesn't match my experiences. I perform a backup from one of the RAC nodes (any one in fact) allocating a single channel if that suits. I can perform a backup of the database from any node in the RAC, and restore it to any node in the RAC. Fundamentally, it's all the same database. I'd think about using two channels when backing up directly to tape (e.g. using the SAN Storage Agent) and wanted to maximise throughput. /David Mc London, UK -Original Message- From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:ads...@vm.marist.edu] On Behalf Of Wellington KMK Sent: 13 November 2009 16:51 To: ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU Subject: Re: [ADSM-L] TDP for Oracle in AIX - Problem I had put the below entry in my dsm.sys file.. Problems with 6.1.2.0 on Windows servers
We started pushing out 6.1.2.0 since our security officer read about the security vulnerabilitys in 6.1.x Now we are starting to see rashes of problems on W2K3 (both regular and R2) servers. Yet we have plenty of servers that have upgraded with no issues. ALL of these servers were running just fine with 6.1.0.0 and older versions of the client. Most are manifesting as crashes in dsmagent and/or communications errors (which I know from previous issues I have seen with 6.x, is often a red herring). Re: Problems with 6.1.2.0 on Windows servers
Hello Zoltan, We have started upgrade process from 6.1.0.2 to 6.1.2.0. 5 or 6 servers Win2003R2 have been upgraded already. We faced similar problem on one of them. I have fixed it by: de-install client -- reboot server -- install client -- reboot server -- configure client services by setup wizard (existing dsm.opt). Ithink it is a little bit long process, but what to do? Re: Problems with 6.1.2.0 on Windows servers
Thank you for the suggestion. However, it is ridiculous that this machination would be the answer. I am beginning to wonder if there really is a problem with the communications module/portion of the GUI client. I just did some testing with my workstation GUI and found that even when properly closing the 6.1.0.2 and 6.1.2.0 clients (i.e. FILE - EXIT), the server always registers a severed connection 11/13/2009 2:48:54 PM ANR0480W Session 8995 for node UCC-PC87 (WinNT) terminated - connection with client severed. What gives? We faced similar problem on one of them. I have fixed it by: de-install client -- reboot server -- install client -- reboot server -- configure client services by setup wizard (existing dsm.opt). Ithink it is a little bit long process, but what to do? Yet we have plenty of servers that have upgraded with no issues. ALL of these servers were running just fine with 6.1.0.0 and older versions of the client. Most are manifesting as crashes in dsmagent and/or communications errors (which I know from previous issues I have seen with 6.x, is often a red herring). But, I need to allocate two channels coz it Oracle 9i RAC DB(2 nodes)... My site has a number of HP-UX Oracle servers. We used to send incoming backups to storage pools composed of sequential disk volumes (which TSM treats like tape volumes with respect to mount points and mount point limits), and data for Oracle restores is almost always read from tape. We started off setting maxnummp equal to the number of backup or restore streams TDP was configured for, and got lots of sessions failing with messages indicating that the client was trying to use too many mount points. We eliminated the problem by setting maxnummp to twice the number of streams TDP was configured for. We have never figured out why the extra mount points are needed.
Re: different cartridge sizes in one library
I do not mean different drives, but different cartridges of different LTO generations. e.g a library has two LTO4 drives and mix of LTO4 and LTO3 cartridges.
tape library for TSM
What are the essentials of a tape library to fully work with TSM? - enough tape drives - barcode reader - cartridge barcode labels - FC connection for LAN-free ...?
