Alex,

This looks vaguely familiar. Open a PMR with IBM support.
The service team will assist you in resolving the problem.

Thanks,

Client windows 2003 sp2

Have checked the client manual, and googled all around.
Found several references to windows 2003 sp2 fixing this. However, we are on

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: ASR backup failed

2007-03-29 Thread Henrik Wahlstedt
Hi,

I guess it is what I have seen on a lot of servers.

Dsmc backup systemservices, might work. But dsm backup systemstate|asr
will fail due to VSS problems.
Even if you list the VSS writers they will most likely be stable,
'vssadmin list writers'.

You can try a systemstate backup with Ntbackup, but include ASR info to
see if it works, requires a diskette. In most cases it wont work.

So you need to check if you have the latest VSS patch installed ex. wmic
/node:%1 qfe where hotfixid='KB913648'. There is at least on newer VSS
patch out too. If it is not installed, install the patch and reboot.
Microsoft wont address VSS issueses without the latest patches
installed.

Btw, upgrade your TSM client since it will be out of support soon.

Re: ASR backup failed

2007-03-29 Thread Neil Schofield
Dinesh

When I have seen problems with backups of ASR before, it has coincided with
the Logical Disk Manager service being stuck in a state of 'Stopping'. In
this case, the problem backing up the ASR information will generally be
accompanied by DCOM time-out errors in the system event log.

With the Logical Disk Manager service in this state, there may also be
repeating PlugPlayManager time-out errors in the System Event Log. Killing
the dmadmin.exe process will generally cure the problem. You can verify
this by performing a DSMC BACKUP ASR.

Microsoft KB article #924390 describes a scenario in which this may occur.

Hi, Eric -

The List archives show only frustrated customers trying to deal with
this error. Heck, the message is not even documented in the 5.3
Messages manual. (Try Help in your TSM 5.3 client to see if it's there.)

My instinct on this would be to see if there's anything wrong with
the C:\adsm.sys\ASR staging directory - maybe even a space issue.
Maybe try deleting \adsm.sys entirely and see if a fresh backup works.

No files will be backed up.

Explanation: An error occurred while backing up the files needed for

System action: Processing stops.

User response: Ask your system administrator to check the error log.

Unfortunately, IBM has royally confused the customer base with really

The seeming 5.3 version of the Messages manual (SC32-9090-02) that I

The version of the Messages manual currently on the Web site

Huh? Is this time warp documentation? Are the publications people

Could an IBMer monitoring this List get back to the documentation

Re: ASR backup failed

2005-12-12 Thread Crosskey, Adam - Resources, ICT Services
We suffered from this error when the OS had a problem starting the Logical
Disk Manager Administrative Service. (look to see if you can see your disks
in 'Disk Management')
A restart fixed the OS, and backups were fine after this.

Subject: [ADSM-L] ASR backup failed

Hi *SM-ers!
On one of our nodes the ASR backup fails for several days now.
The only errors logged in the dsmerror.log are:

12/03/2005 02:06:30 ANS1228E Sending of object 'C:' failed
12/03/2005 02:06:30 ANS1468E Backing up Automated System Recovery (ASR)
files failed. No files will be backed up.

I checked the IBM support page for ANS1468E, but I couldn't find anything...
Does anybody know how to get more information out of the TSM client?
Thank you very much for any help in advance!
Kindest regards,
Eric van Loon

NDMP Backup failed, not sure why?

2005-09-08 Thread Joni Moyer
Hi Everyone,

I have an AIX 5.2 TSM server 5.2.4.0 which has the NDMP protocol set up to
backup our NAS NS704G. We have never had any issues with our backups, but
last night I received the following message:

09/07/05 19:01:25 ANR2753I (NAS_3-DIFFERENTIAL):ANR1763E BACKUP NODE:

   Command failed - (SESSION: 72016)

09/07/05 19:01:25 ANR1763E BACKUP NODE: Command failed - see previous
error
   messages. (SESSION: 72015)

When I looked in the activity log I did not find any previous error
message, which I find to be very bizarre. When I started the same backup
manually it works fine. Any suggestions? Thanks!

SQL backup failed.

2001-06-27 Thread Bo Nielsen

Help.

I'm running a backup on a SQL server 7.0.
Sometime everything is OK, but mostly fail some
of the DB's with the follow errors from the SQL log:

BackupVirtualDeviceSet::Initialize: Open failure on backup device
'TDPSQL-sqladsm-2001021544-3180'. Operating system error -2147024891(error
not found).

From the TSM log:

06/27/2001 02:15:52,Backed up - FMRK, type: DB, size: 231583513, actual
bytes: 0, secs: 0,00, Kb/Sec: 0,00, SQL server: FDB033, TSM server: dsm, SQL
status: DB-LIB message: Backup or restore operation terminating abnormally.
, TSM status: TSM operation cancelled.

The configuration is:

TSM server OS/390 version 4.1.30
SQL server 7.0 on NT 4 sp5
TDP SQL agent 1.1.2

Why is the scheduled event ' ' completed successfully,
when the backup is terminated for some DB's??
