Well, my terminology might have been imprecise, again :)

Actually, there are two kinds of "readonly-ness". If you set up your table or
form to allow no data modification at all, then the current cell in a table will
only have the small dotted frame. If you set up both the form and the table to
allow data modification (which is the default), then the current/active cell
will be presented by a dedicated input control, usually some kind of text input
control. Therein, you can scroll, select (parts of) the text, etc, just as you
could do with any other text input control in any dialog.

Now additionally, you can set up a certain table column to be read-only. In this
case, the input control is present, too, it it does not allow modifications.

The input controls are responsible for the events.

So with this in mind, and reading your response, this should address your usage
scenario - yes?

This application is awesome, I used this for creating an news letter. I found
following issues while working. 

1. Hyperlinks gets activated while editing. (Add an hyperlink in Text area from
Drawing toolbar)
In writer these hyperlinks are triggered only if Cntrl is pressed. But in Draw
it will be triggered without Cntrl key. 

2. So then I tried to edit the text area by right clicking the same. But their
is no Edit text option is available in the Right click explorer menu. 

Please suggest, what can be done.

yes, Solaris 10 is our baseline. I do not have a strong opinion on this change,
but according to Ause, it helps simplified our Sun-internal build environment,
having one item less which is different between setsolar/configure envs, and
this alone is a Good Thing (TM) to have.

I checked with "Ooo 3.1.1 WIN XP DE-multilingual version German UI activated
[OOO310m19 (Build 9420)]" and can confirm the reported effect. Same bad result
with "Ooo Dev 3.2.0 multilingual version German UI WIN XP: [DEV300m57 (Build 
9422)]"
Was ok with "2.0.2  German version WIN XP: [680m5(Build9011)]" 
Please see my screenshots in "testkit.zip"!
The problem is that TAB Fill Characters are visible only during text edit mode,
as you also can see using my little "testdocument.odg" from "testkit.zip", that
only contains a single text filed. With 3.1.1, the fill characters are only
visible after you double clicked the text.

I noticed that on Windows, it seems to freeze that window. If I have another
document open, I can use that still open document to tell OOo to exit.

I have the OpenCards plug-in installed and created a set of flashcards with it. 
One of the functions of OC is longterm learning. OpenOffice hangs if I do the 
following:

1. Double-click on a flashcard set in a folder. This starts OpenOffice and 
displays the first flashcard.
2. Select OpenCards->Longterm Learning
3. Set the card category to point to the card sets (I have created 7).
4. Select one of the cardsets and press the Start Learning! button.
5. Press the "Perfectly" button a few times.
6. OpenOffice will terminate with an error popup (I have a copy of the error, 
but there seems to be no way to attach it here).

1 Create a new Impress file
2 Apply "Title,Text" layout
3 Input more than 3 paragraphs, like 7 paragraphs in the Textbox
4 Select all of paragraphs, Format - Bullets and Numbering - Customize Tab

5 Pay attention to the paragraphs

Result

Expectation
Chinese numbering don't change

Of course, the possibility of this workaround doesn't mean that the requested
OpenOffice feature isn't needed. It would be much better if the guide words
could just work, without the need for macros. These sample documents are
primarily meant to illustrate the needed feature, so that OpenOffice can be
enhanced to provide the needed functionality.

Notice that it does not crash on OOo exit like Andrew reports, but when the
document starts being closed (try closing by clicking the menubar closer for
example). The program receives a SIGSEGV when the document starts closing, when
gdb catches it the document is still visible:

I tried that document too, and couldn't figure out which macro to run in order
to insert the guide words. But I have a more current sample of the macro system
that gtrihus has developed, and have uploaded it for you to try. I don't know
where to find documentation - but to see the macros in action, download
"Dictionary1.odt", open it, and in OpenOffice go to "Macro; Update Guide Words".

A form created in the OpenOffice drawing programme, can be viewed, edited,
printed and exported to PDF in Version 3.0.0.
The form has a number of areas where there are areas intended for a
user to write in information indicated by strings of fullstops.
When the file is opened in OO 3.1.1, some of the strings of fullstops are
not visible.  When the text area is made editable by double clicking, the
invisible strings appear.  But when the document is printed, the problem
strings do not print.  When exported to PDF, the resulting file is similarly
deficient.

As we discussed in irc, I've revised my patch to get it to apply against recent
milestones.  The milestone I used is m57.

The only significant change is with the standard filter dialog code, which has
changed quite a bit recently due to the integration of the new feature that
would allow more than 3 filtering criteria in a single filtered range.  All the
other parts of the patch should be identical to the previous one.

When I open Writer I receive a notice...that another version of openoffice.org 
is accessing my data, then it ask  would I like to continue.  I always say 
yes.  Upon entering I open a document, it crashes.  If I go to 'My Documents" 
file folder and open from there, it loads.  While I am working on the document 
it will suddenly give me a message that an error has occured and it must shut 
down it sais that it is saving my information and can be found in the backup 
file.  When I go to the back up file to retrieve my document it didn't save any 
new information that was entered, It only saved at the last point in which I 
saved it before loading it.  If I place a clipart or photo or object in my 
document it crashes.  If I try to use the navigational buttons on the screen to 
go to another page it crashes.  If I try to use the "Find and Replace" it 
crashes.

Help! I am tired of losing documents.

I too would like engineering notation.

To answer larsnooden's question below I believe OpenOffice.org QA should 
conduct an internal 
reassessment of this issue.

To help here I have reviewed the on-line history, summarised the issues, and 
offered some 
recommendations for consideration by OpenOffice.org. My structure includes:
1. Summary (this section);
2. Way Ahead, including:
A. Separate the Two Issues,
B. Reassess Priority of the Two Issues,
C. Consider Dependancy of these Two Issues, and
D. Review Other Issues in the Database for Dependancy; and
3. Detailed Recommendations.

Back in 2004 two separate requirements were blurred together within this issue 
and I believe that 
blurring has hindered engineering notation in gaining appropriate 
implementation priority.

The two [blurred] issues are:

A. Engineering Notation, and

B. SI Prefixes.

A. ENGINEERING NOTATION

The requirement for engineering notation was well articulated on 17 Jun 02 by 
the initiating post for 
this this issue [5930, "Engineering Notation"].

The only thing I would add is "Engineering notation is a version of scientific 
notation" [Ref: Wikipedia 
article on Engineering Notation 
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engineering_notation ] as this may help in 
the implementation of engineering notation.

B. SI PREFIXES

On 14 Jan 04 [24373, "Engineering and SI/MKSA notation support for Calc"] was 
raised, and 9 hours 
later it was deemed to be a duplicate of [5930, "Engineering Notation"].

I disagree with this assessment as they are are not the same issue, nor a 
double of the same issue.

[24373, "Engineering and SI/MKSA notation support for Calc"] does describe a 
requirement, and that is 
for SI Prefix, viz, "An SI prefix is a name or associated symbol that precedes 
a basic unit of measure"

A. Separate the Two Issues

First of all, the two issues need to be separated so they be considered 
separately, and I would consider 
Engineering Notation ahead of SI Prefixes.

B. Reassess Priority of the Two Issues

low.

of the most voted issues".

Also, all the professional engineers I know use engineering notation when doing 
their calculations, and 
only at the end does one consider changing the SI Prefix when presenting the 
result => greater need 
(and priority) for engineering notation over SI prefix.

C. Consider Dependancy of these Two Issues

Once [5930, "Engineering Notation"] has been implemented, then I believe 
[24373, "Engineering and 
SI/MKSA notation support for Calc"] can be implemented => [24373, "Engineering 
and SI/MKSA 
notation support for Calc"] is dependant upon [5930, "Engineering Notation"].

D. Review Other Issues in the Database for Dependancy

I reviewed the other issues deemed to be duplicates and I believe:

(1) Issue [25974, "engineering number-format"] raised 28 Feb 04 is a mix of 
both [5930, "Engineering 
Notation"] and [24373, "Engineering and SI/MKSA notation support for Calc"] and 
should remain 
CLOSED,

(2) Issue [32688, "Scientific cell format to snap to common multiples"] raised 
6 Aug 04 is a duplicate, 
but it is a duplicate of Issue [25974, "engineering number-format"], not Issue 
[24373, "Engineering and 
SI/MKSA notation support for Calc"].

(3) The dependancy tree for Issue [32688, "Scientific cell format to snap to 
common multiples"] 
depends upon itself.

3. DETAILED RECOMMENDATIONS

Recommend that:

A. Status of Issue [24373, "Engineering and SI/MKSA notation support for Calc"] 
be changed from 
CLOSED to REOPENED,

B. Priority of Issue [24373, "Engineering and SI/MKSA notation support for 
Calc"] be assigned P4,

C. Issue [24373, "Engineering and SI/MKSA notation support for Calc"] be made 
dependant upon Issue 
[5930, "Engineering Notation"],

D. Name of Issue [24373, "Engineering and SI/MKSA notation support for Calc"] 
be changed to [24373, 
"SI Prefix"],

E. Priority of Issue [5930, "Engineering Notation"] be changed to P3 (at a 
minimum), and

F. Dependancy tree entry for [32688, "Scientific cell format to snap to common 
multiples"] w

I can confirm on XP SP2 running DEV300_m57 (Writer). Works with other Windows
wordprocs.

In OOo, font is replaced in document and in drop-down font list.

Problem is caused by the comma in the font's internal Family Name (commas in
other name fields don't seem to matter).

Attached below is a version of the font without the comma in its Family Name,
which should work. It was generated using Adobe's TTX utility for converting TTF
fonts to and from editable text.

After changing default values in tables, the Primarykeyfield with an
Autoincrement starts at 0. I used the hsqldb on WinXp.

Please open attached database
-open "Tabelle1" in design view
-set default value "dtNumber" to 1
-set default value "dtOld" to no

-open "Tabelle1" by doubleclick
-insert a new dataset, and leave the row by using the TAB-key

After 6 Times to leave the row by TAB-key and klick OK, the
Autoincrement is back to 6 and can work proper.

But if you change

 the game will start from beginn.

I'm relatively new to OOcalc. It is now distributed with our engineering system
which is based on Linux. This is really unfortunate. As an electrical engineer I
MUST be able to format as requested. I am looking at a spreadsheet with over
12000 entries of time stamps. My mind is trained to look at milli, micro, nano,
femto, etc. By not having this capability you're not only causing a group of
possible supporters to discount the Calc but also working to keep them on 
Windows.

By the way, I know why there are so few votes for this request. As soon as I
found out that the feature didn't exist I went back to Excel. It took some
effort to find the issue documented, create a login and add a vote. The vast
majority of new users would not take the trouble to vote. They would just walk
away from the product.

Otherwise, the tool seems rather impressive and the developers should be proud.
It is really unfortunate that such a small issue can make it useless for my
purposes.

I have already accepted the update file from OpenOffice but I haven't installed
this update (many users can do the same thing as me).
Today, I launch once again OpenOffice which propose me to do the same update of
course. I accept and I have an error message like this in english : "A file with
the same name already exists". The download address is "C:\Users\Chris\Desktop".
But, as many users, I have many files on my desktop. Then, I suggest as an
**enhancement**  to precise in the path, the name of the update file in the
update path like this :
"C:\Users\Chris\Desktop\OOo_3.1.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_fr.exe" instead of

Is there any documentation available to I can adapt this method to my needs?
It's exactly what I want but seems to require creating a bunch of styles and
fields and I'm a bit lost about how to reconstruct the method for doing this.
The comment was filed last year (2008) but I hope someone's still around who can
supply the details.

form controls...

cl->aw: problem seems to be that the GraphicExporter service has trouble with
form controls. I'm not sure if this ever worked but the crashes are a definite

Based on the thread, it seems my problem may be tied up with WW8 (97267). I
don't know and can't test if that is the case.

I don't know if these issues are mutually exclusive or how much anyone has been
able to look at this. 

Is there any possibility that some setting, option or additional "save as"
format can be implemented in 3.2 that would be able to export .doc as 3.0.1 
did? 

3.2 looks to be coming from the 3.0 codeline. I was hoping its similarity to
3.0.1 would help matters.

Are we certain it will be addressed in 3.3?

I investigated a little more into this issue to find out what other options I
have than using SID_OPENDOC. I tried osl_executeProcess which at least under
windows didn't start any applications either. I asked hro and he said the better
way to go would be to use the service SystemShellExecute.

Then I found out that SID_OPENDOC implementation in sfx2 already uses this
service. And it executes scripts and executables under windows but not under
linux. This is both inconsistent and a security issue of some sort but it seems
to be a more general issue and not only impress related.

cl->mba: I think the framework team is better suited to handle this one, please
dispatch at your leisure...

AW->WG: Please verify. In principle, all text drawing in DrawingLayer has to
look as before, but should be remarkably faster (e.g. resizing a TextBox and/or
dragging it). All kinds of text means, normal text, scaled text, stretched text,
decorated text, text on curve (FontWork, the old version), redlining, convert to
curve (of text), etc... I already tested all that stuff, so i am pretty 
confident.
