[sw-issues] [Issue 113218] spellcheck returns false negative on entire document - spell check
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=113218 Issue #|113218 Summary|spellcheck returns false negative on entire document - | spell check Component|Word processor Version|OOO320m12 Platform|Unknown URL| OS/Version|Windows XP Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P4 Subcomponent|ui Assigned to|writerneedsconfirm Reported by| --- Additional comments from o...@openoffice.org Sun Jul 18 04:54:07 + 2010 --- I found a bug whereby Open Office spellcheck ( spell check ) incorrectly reports that there are no spelling errors in the document regardless of how many errors are in the document. This issue happens because you have a spell check instance already running in another document. Steps to reproduce: 1) Launch OO Writer. This will result in the creation of a new text document referenced in this bug report as document 1. 2) type something with a spelling error in document 1. 3) create a new text document. This will leave your original document open, and will result in a second document being created. This second document is referenced in this bug report as document 2. 4) type something with a spelling error in document 2. 5) switch to document 1 6) run spell check on document 1 until spell check complains about the spelling error. It should say "not in dictionary." Leave this dialogue untouched as you proceed to step 7 7) switch to document 2 8) run spell check on document 2. Notice that the spell check reports in document 2 that there are no spelling errors. This is a false report, because in fact, there are spelling errors in document 2. Note: I am considering that Spell check is reporting that there are no spelling errors, even though it doesn't explicitly say this, since the result it gives in this issue ("the spell check is complete") is the result it normally gives when there are no errors, therefore the user can reasonably be expected to interpret this as meaning there are no errors. How I found this bug: By chance I ran through the above described steps, and I was rather confused and frustrated until I realized what was going on. Speculation: This bug possibly is specific to the Windows GUI. Priority: I don't know how important a priority you consider this. I would personally consider this to be very high priority as it could result in something terrible happening such as sending off to someone a letter or e-mail or resume replete with spelling errors. This could be very embarrassing. I set this issue at a P4 -- Please feel free to adjust the relative priority to whatever is appropriate in your system. Subcomponent: I have no idea if I selected the correct subcomponent. other: This may be a duplicate bug. There were 5 issues whose summary was "spell check" however I did not look at those issues as I am not inclined to spend time reading issues with meaningless summaries :-) Thanks for your attention to this issue! - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. MS Word used to have the "Therefore" symbol, I think it is a math symbol. I used to have "there4" autocorrect to this symbol, which is a triangle made by 3 dots or circles (each about the size of a degree symbol). I've looked through the special characters twice and can't find it. Using OpenOffice-Writer I opened a Word document that contained the "therefore" symbol, and it was showing as it should, but when I tried to copy the character and paste it into the "customize autocorrect" dialog box, it just showed an empty box, not the symbol. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 113086] "rack to top" paragraph o ption
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=113086 --- Additional comments from hed...@openoffice.org Sun Jul 18 00:33:36 + 2010 --- It works great to specify spacing after paragraph in pt units. That looks right. However there is one aspect of screenplay formatting that I cannot encapsulate in a style. INT - WAREHOUSE - DAY Dt. Forsythe walks up the stairs carrying the beat up trombone like it is especially heavy. INT - DUSTY STOREROOM - DAY Dt. Forsythe plays a few sad minor notes on the beat-up old trombone, which whistles and barely makes a sound. FORSYTHE I'm gonna miss you, sweetheart. With a sigh and a final, reticent look, Dt. Forsythe places the trombone back into the red velvet lining of its case. MATCH CUT: INT - NIGHTCLUB - NIGHT The trombone shines from the red velvet lining of its case. Young Forsythe picks it up and goes to join THE BAND. JIMMY starts a few taps of a jazz beat. JIMMY It's a hot one tonight! PATRONS in classy digs mill about with drinks in their hands or talk over food presented by WAITERS. ... In my styles, the sluglines (INT/EXT - LOCATION - TIME) are a heading style so they show up as tags in PDF export. "Direction" and "Dialog" styles typically have a space of 12pt after paragraph. However, there should not be extra space before or after the "MATCH CUT" line which is usually right-justified to specify a special type of cut between scenes - call it an "Edit Instruction" line. (In this case, the trombone would remain in the same place on the screen, and the scenery and audio would change.) But I can't specify a negative space before paragraph if I want to set the edit instruction line in its own style. Because the "Direction" style default is to have an extra space after paragraph, it means I have to change that setting manually in Format.Paragraph to accommodate edit instruction lines. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I will try to explain my request. I would to create "complex" objects for using like a gallery or library (Drag an shape or object on the page). I do that a lot of time with an other software (ok, I'll follow your advice : no reference ;-) ). Problem : it's hard to have "complex" object usable as "simple object" with OOo Draw. Example : try to draw a simple switch with 3 lines and a circle ( __.\__ ). Add "glue" connector at each end. Now, group all (3 lines and circle) and now, how to have a text at the right of the group wich could be edited with double-click ? 1) create a text and group with first group ? bad idea because editing isn't possible with double-click... 2) "combine" (CTRL+SHIFT+K) is ok for double-click edition but text is center on the form (so, overwrite the symbol). If editing position in inch or centimeter, changing scale of the object on the page make the text coming on it when growing or be far away from it object when shrinking. I'm sorry if I'm not clear but this could help a lot to create libraries (networks, electrical, electronics, symbols, etc.) and the priority is IMHO higher than average. I would really help OpenOffice community and my goal is to use OpenOffice Draw as a professionnal application. It does what you would expect (when "Replace custom styles" is off) - it removes all blank paragraphs. I just want to suppress blank paragraphs at the top of the page, or leave blank paragraphs at the end of the last page below the cutoff, whatever. es: I don't care about line counting. Using a text editor to write a screenplay would NOT work, because I need to use styles to keep things together. I will look into the register true option and monospace fonts for how to make the space after a paragraph equal one line exactly. Since you seem to not be open-minded to the option I suggested, please consider adding the option to meter "space before/after paragraph" options in number of lines, or proportional, similar to the options for line spacing. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. There is no problem when the suppression generates a conflict of referential integrity (the initial value of the key is restored). Steps to reproduce : - open the table Table2 - select a record and delete value in the ID field - Error message : error updating the current record / current row could be updated - Choose Ok - Close the table - Message : the current record has been changed. Do you want to save the changes ? - Choose No - Close the database (no save) - Reload and open the base The record was recreated with the next value (identity). So, 1) the messages are ok but the record is updated even if you choose not to save the changes. 2) It would seem preferable that the operation is the same as when there is a conflict of integrity (restoration of the key) (step by step and screenshot in the attachment) Best regards - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Please have a look at chapter 10 of the drawing guide, starting with: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/OOoAuthors_User_Manual/Draw_Guide/Working_with_text_in_Draw There are several ways to enter the edit mode of a drawing object, for example you can press F2. You can set different ways how an object react to double-click or singe-click in Tools > Options and with the buttons on the toolbar "Options". I do not understand your problem with scaling. However, because scaling is a different topic, you should write a new issue for scaling. We cannot handle issues, which deal with several topics.
