It was neither the printer driver, nor OpenOffice's fault. It was Debian people, whose OO compilation for Debian Etch (testing) from their official repository is buggy and ugly. I converted original RPMs into DEBs, following the instructions found in: http://installation.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=dev&msgNo=610 and now OpenOffice works just perfectly. I am so impressed how quickly OO is loaded and how smoothly is running! It prints perfectly, too. Now I like OO even more than before, since it is a great program! - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. But in vain. I converted rpm files into deb ones and installed some additional red hat libraries. But printer didn't work. Most likely it works only in red hat. Has anybody managed to install these Japanese puxus rpms in debian? Turboprint is not good. Though it prints without problems from Openoffice, it is too fast, commercial and doesn't print colors perfectly. So the best drivers for Canon Pixus i560, i860, i990 in Debian remain to be Takushi Miyoshi's ones: http://mambo.kuhp.kyoto-u.ac.jp/%7Etakushi/ As for Openoffice, it is too picky for drivers, I think. I have tried turboprint. http://www.turboprint.de/english.html It really can print pictures in color in Openoffice and in general works very well except that puts a huge logo in the middle of the page. But like Takushi Miyoshi's driver http://mambo.kuhp.kyoto-u.ac.jp/%7Etakushi/ it fails in the same cases as in Photoprint and Epiphany browser which crashes right after sending a command to print. And, though Picasa can detect the turboprint driver, it doesn't print anyway. But the pictures and other color things in Openoffice are printed very well. Unfortunately the other link was not helpful at all. I know how to convert rpm packages into deb ones. But I don't know Japanese to read the documentation. Most likely I did something wrong, since CUPS didn't see new canon drivers. I wonder, if it is possible to change PostScrip Level in Openoffice. I tried to change it to 2, but each time when I opened this option again, it said: " PostScrip Level: from driver", as if nothing had happened. It is interesting to figure out why Takushi Miyoshi's driver doesn't print pictures in color in Openoffice. In other programs it works much better and prints colors much nicer than turboprint . Sometimes it happens to it that it starts printing pictures in color in Openoffice but very seldom. Alex. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I have recently installed Debian Etch and I want to use Linux all the time. I think, it is a great OS, too. But there's an interesting problem which I can't find an explanation anywhere. My printer Canon i860 doesn't print pictures in colour but only grey scale from Openoffice. It prints in colour everything like font, highlighting, background, but not pictures, no matter what extensions of them are. I have tried all the options for setting up the printer and all in vain. Interesting that the similar problem was in Photoprint, it didn't find correct driver and used one from a different black and white printer. But then it didn't print in color at all. I have the driver from Takushi Miyoshi (http://mambo.kuhp.kyoto-u.ac.jp/%7Etakushi/). Maybe, the problem is in it, since Picasa didn't find my printer. But the driver is not bad and, I am afraid, it is the only one available so far.It prints correctly everything almost everywhere like in kword, gnome-photo-printer, mozilla-firefox, mozilla-browser, abiword, gimp, nvu. It doesn't print completely in epiphany web browser, photoprint. Maybe there's a bug in Openoffice, I don't know. Foomatic says everything is OK. It would be nice to have such an option in Openoffice as to enter printer command manually like one in Mozilla and NVU. I tried to find one in the Openoffice 2.0.3. but failed. Any suggestions?
