I made a follow-up test on those configurations:

   1. PC running Windows XP Professional SP3 and OOo 300m9 (build 9358)
   2. PC running Windows XP Professional SP3 and OOo 310m11 (build 9399)

In both configurations, I tested two presentations:

* a presentation with a single slide containing text and graphical objects
* a presentation with 2 slides; the first with a title and a text body, the
second with a title and a body containing graphical objects.

Configuration #1
I DON'T reproduce the reported issue on any presentation. Clicking on slide's
body don't blank the thumbnail. Furthermore, the thumbnail is updated while I
type text / place new objects in slide's body.

Configuration #2
I DO Reproduce the issue on both presentations: as soon as I click on the body
of the selected slide to edit it, the thumbnail goes blank.

So it seems that this bug is a regression introduced in version 3.1.0.

[graphics-issues] [Issue 99228] Can not place text on top of background videos. Impress (a recent versio n, but don't know which one.

I successfully reproduced the issue on those computers:

1.  HP dc5800 / Intel Core 2 Duo 2,66GHz - 2GB Ram / Windows XP Pro - OOo 3.0.0
and OOo 3.1.0 [EN]
2. Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo / AMD Sempron - 512MB Ram / Windows Vista Home Basic -
OOo 3.1.0 [IT]
3. PowerBook G4 1,5 GHz / 512MB Ram / Linux Debian 5.0 (kernel 2.6.26) -  Gnome
2.22.3  - OOo 2.4 [IT]

with the following sequence of steps:
1-Create a new presentation with 5 slides:

* first slide contains a video and a text box
* second slide contains a video and a graphical object (a shape from the
draw toolbar).
* third slide contains a video and an external image
* a fourth slide contains a video and a 3x2 table.
* a fifth slide containing only graphical objects (a shape, an image, a text
box and a table).

2- On each slide try to reverse the order of the objects sending backward the
video.
3- Look at the thumbnail of the slide to check if the order is correctly changed
4- Start the slide show to see to check if the order is correctly changed.

The issue is present on OOo 2.4.1, 3.0.0 and 3.1.0 (latest build) and is
independent by the object type used. My tests exposed an interesting behavior :
the thumbnails on the left pane ARE CORRECT The objects are shown in the
expected position, while in normal view and during slide show are incorrect.

I attach a screen capture showing the objects are correctly ordered in
thumbnails.

Created an attachment (id=62978)
Impress presentation, showing that in thumbnails the desired order is respected
(slide 1 and 2), while in editing mode it isn't.

Could you please give details about the screen recording program?

As I said, with the official OOo and several video formats, I DON'T reproduce
the problem.

As far as I understood, kol77 recorded the video under Windows and inserted it
into Go-oo under linux.
 I would try this sequence to confirm (or not) the issue using an official OOo
version.

Grazie per lo snapshot ;)

From the snapshot I understood this avi file has been exported from Google Map,
isn't it?

I have tried on 2 different PC configurations and several video formats, but NOT
reproduced the issue. The PC configurations I used are:
* Fujitsu-Siemens with AMD processor - Win Vista Home editon / OOo 3.1.0
* Power Mac G4 - Debian / Gnome v2.22.3 / OOo 2.4.1

Video format checked are:
* wmv
* flv
* avi
* mpg

Hereunder the sequence of commands I made:
1. create an empty presentation
2. insert a video in avi format
3. insert in the same slide a video in flv format
4. insert a video in mpg format
5 inset a video in wmv format
6 start the presentation.

All 4 videos run at the same time without problems.

Could you give some more details about the .avi files you're trying to insert?
(dimension, frames/sec, total time, etc).
