Re: [AMRadio] [Hamvention] Re: Motorhomes in Flea Market Area

2009-04-19 Thread Larry WA9VRH
HI Guys,

You know what??

Here is a person asking an honest question (and I may be wrong)

But all you give him back is bullshit! What the hell are you thinking??

Dayton will probably be down a lot this year. Me no I will not be there as
I just went back to work after a 3 month lay off.

Why are you trying to discourage someone from going?? Do you want it to
fail for GOOD

Well if so go to H... I want to be back there next year! NO I don't go
to make a fourtune I go to see friends. Probably something you narrow
minded people do not understand.

If you don't like Dayton STAY HOME! We who enjoy it will NOT care!

I would give my left NUT to be there to see all the friends that I will not
be able to see this year... I wonder how many will not be there next year
for me to see.Any of you jerks ever thought of that???

Bill N4BKT I am sorry for our fellow hams that are a sorry sort. Please
wait for the reply from that Hamvention as I believe they will give you a
negative answer. But at least it won't be full of answers comming out of
assholes instead of brains.

73 Larry WA9VRH

Sorry but I have to post this to other list to keep ths crap in line. We
don't need to trash Dayton we need to help keep it going because it probably
will never be able to be replaced!

This was the first time in 18 years I missed it. There is always 2005.

Any truth to the rumor that this is the last year at the Hara. Probably just

Nice seeing you at Dayton. You blew it by leaving early. Today was great

I
sols most my stuff before I could get it all unloaded! The trip back was
great. Good WX and not too much traffic. We left at 1:30 and pulled in to the

in Burke at 9:35PM.

2004-05-17 Thread Merz Donald S
Well, I sure hope they don't move the date again. When they changed the last
time, they moved into or close to the date of several good local hamfests,
which then had to change dates too, of course. The Wheeling hamfest (WV) in
particular was destroyed and ceased to exist. The ones shifted forward into
colder weather could not afford all-indoor facilities, but it was too cold for
flea-marketing, so they fell to half their previous size. So the last Dayton
date change was a disaster for hamfesting around Western PA.

  weekend in April.

He!?

It always rained ( or 12 years back it did snow ) in April - thats why they
shifted the date. Nevertheless, at least the last two years it was a real
washout.

This was the first time in 18 years I missed it. There is always 2005.

Any truth to the rumor that this is the last year at the Hara. Probably just
another urban legend like the one about them moving the Hamvention to
Cleveland. HI.

Butler, PA. is only a few weeks now.

Re: [AMRadio] Hamvention 2004

2004-05-16 Thread David Knepper
The weather did us in again! I left before noon on Saturday because of an
all day rain.

Weather on Friday was so, so. It drizzled in the afternoon off and on.

Terrible when so much time and money is invested in these few days. Lots
of wondering if they should move the Hamvention back to the last of April

Flea market was not that impressive. Saw very little Collins or for that
matter much early equipment. No doubt it finding its way to Ebay. There is
no rain on Ebay!

I'd be interested to kow how the weather was for Hamvention this
year. I definitely enjoyed reading the Chester's Almanac though!

It used to never get rained out, back when they held it the 3rd
weekend in April. Then someone got the brilliant idea of moving it to
the 4th weekend in April, and it rained practically every year. So
they moved it to May to escape the rain and cold, and although there
have been a couple of rain-free events, weather still seems to be a
problem.

Apparently, the 3rd weekend in April by some quirk of nature turns out
to usually be dry in that little corner of the world. After they
moved it to the 4th weekend, I used to ask locals what the weather was
like the week before, and inevitabley they would respond that the
weather was fine then; that would have been a good weekend to have had
the hamfest. Of course that third weekend would sometimes be cold,
and I have seen snow, but the fleamarket rarely shut down. I recall
one year in their brochure they mentioned that in 22 years the hamfest
had been rained out only twice. I suspect that rain-free weekend in
April is one factor in Dayton becoming such a ham radio mecca. Too
bad someone had to mess with the date.

Dave,
Can't join you at Hamvention but would like to get a bit of sage advice
regarding a Collins amp I am considering buying.
I am looking at a 30S-1 only a few miles from my QTH.
Presently have several items from when I started in amature radio in 1961 as
WN2MOX but would like to assemble over time a Collins station similar to what
we used at RACES in those days.
We can do it by email or I would like to call you to discuss this if you
would provide me with a phone number.
