Please don't send huge attachments (Re: [arr] this happines is reached every house in our town ranipet)

2009-03-10 Thread V S Rawat
I think such 9,857K files as attachment are too big to be processed
conveniently.

There had been several huge size attachments in the list recently.

Yesterday also, someone has sent 3 similar looking pics of a kid with
CD that were quite large sizes, about 1.5 MB per image whereas that
could have been made to a jpg of some 50 KB.

pop3 Offline mail readers are not capable of handling such huge sizes
of attachment. I am finding that my Thunderbird gets stuck while
downloading them and that halts download of any further mail for hours
till i realize that something is amiss that no mails are coming. Then,
I have to log in to gmail account, delete the mail having huge
download - there is no way of just deleting attachment in gmail,
restart Thunderbird and then it downloads remaining mails. I loose
that particular mail in any case. Like, I couldn't see this particular
10 MB video.

Request members to employ some self discipline while sharing huge
files. You can always post them to any file sharing site and send the
links to the list so that interested members can download them.

Hope moderator would also give a thought to this problem and find some solution.

Thanks.

Probably this is a bit off topic and I do agree with you that ideally
we shouldn't shouldn't be sending across huge attachments in a mailing list,
but Rawat you could always setup Thunderbird to ensure that mails bigger
than a predefined size are not downloaded locally to your machine and hence
saving you all the trouble
