Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Tweaking - Bypass internal SB DAC and SPidf Question
If you apply my Toolbox to the Touch, you can turn the analog output off from the SW side. At least the bits are no longer routed in parallel to all outputs in that case. No, you are still thinking that somehow your digital out via S/PDIF or optical to your external DAC is running through the internal DAC. IT IS NOT. The internal DAC is always on, but the path to your external DAC is NOT running through the internal DAC. -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86630 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Thanks for that Clive. Just for clarity, if the internal Touch DAC continues to operate, is it's digital output via spidf, then subsequently clocked/reclocked and D/A converted again at the external DAC stage? -- turbot fiend turbot fiend's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22691 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86630 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

The internal DAC continues to operate in parallel with the SPDIF output, regardless of whether you connect an external DAC. turbot fiend;621386 Wrote: > I want to be sure that it is the external DAC that i am listening to by > choice. Whichever DAC's analogue outputs you connect to your amplifier is the one you'll be listening to. If you connect both the SB's analogue outputs and the external DAC's analogue outputs (ie. to two different inputs on the amp), then the amp's input selector will determine which DAC you hear. turbot fiend;621386 Wrote: > Likewuse Are there any settings on Squeezeserver that I should adjust in > order to optimise - I tend to leave it alone and remain on most stable > version. If you want to avoid using the SB's volume control (and use only your amp's volume control), then some people recommend setting Squeezeserver to have fixed volume output. But it isn't essential - you can just leave the SB's volume at max and it amounts to the same thing. turbot fiend;621386 Wrote: > Furthermore, if one connects both coax and optical to a DAC > concurrently, which would default? That would depend on the DAC. Some DACs might have a default priority; others might require you to manually select the input. The SB doesn't care - it sends the same SPDIF signal on both COAX and optical outputs. turbot fiend;621386 Wrote: > I have tried to do some listening tests to hear if my ears can discern > spidf differences, but have failed to do so so. Comparing COAX and optical to external DAC? No surprise you hear no difference. Comparing SB analogue output and external DAC? Whether you hear a difference depends on the relative performance of the SB and external DACs. Maybe they happen to sound pretty much the same - entirely plausible. -- cliveb Transporter -> ATC SCM100A cliveb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=348 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86630 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Tweaking - Bypass internal SB DAC and SPidf Question
Some dumb questions that search or RTFM not made obvious. Have RTFM'd but can't find out how the internal DAC in SB Touch is automatically disabled when one attaches an external DAC. Is it a by-default setting when spidf out is connected (coax or opt.)? I want to be sure that it is the external DAC that i am listening to by choice. Likewuse Are there any settings on Squeezeserver that I should adjust in order to optimise - I tend to leave it alone and remain on most stable version. Furthermore, if one connects both coax and optical to a DAC concurrently, which would default? I have tried to do some listening tests to hear if my ears can discern spidf differences, but have failed to do so so. My system: Tranquil Harmony T7>router>Devolo N extender> wireless to SB Touch> optical to Cyrus PreXP D Qx Dac chip> Dynaudio Focus 110 Actives> Velodyne SPLr 800 ultra sub I am overall very happy with system - but dont want to miss any tricks. thanks for reading. -- turbot fiend turbot fiend's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22691 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86630 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
