[AZORES-Genealogy] So... I've followed the instructions

2018-06-29 Thread Julie Collins (Skellern)
and my autosomal DNA from ancestry is now on FTDna, and I've joined the Azores
project… but what next?

I’ve been coming across people on ancestry who obviously are connected to me
somehow in the Azores, but even though I’ve messaged them, I’ve not had a
response, and as my only known Azorean ancestor is a total stumbling block… to
get beyond (despite twice searching through all the Faial parishes after his
dob ) I’m really hoping for a DNA link somewhere, that might help.

He is… (Anglicised) Manual DIAZ, born 31 August 1840.

My gt.gt. grandmother was born in New Zealand:
Birth: 1868/13060 Deers Amelia Eliza Ann Emmanuel

St Patrick’s Cathedral, Auckland
Baptism 12 August 1868, birth as: 28 May,
Amelia Jane DIEZ,
parents: Manuel GOREZ & Elizabeth (sic)
Godparents Alfred COURTNEY, Louisa COURTNEY (Eliza’s siblings)

Is the GOREZ the clue to why I’ve not found him before?

Maria,

Yes there may be a certification note on the margin of the baptism.

Do you have a name and date if his birth. Also, if you know where he served
you can write to that church for more information.

2018-06-29 Thread Cheri Mello
Good news and bad news.

Good:
Looks like there are more dispensations in the early 1800s than the 1700s.
Gaps still exist though.

Bad:
Ok, the one grandkid that JR gave me has no dispensation because there's a
gap of missing records.

I can go back to the archive on Tuesday, but I need more of you to check
your genealogy programs for Manuel Furtado & Marianna da Trindade.

 Hi
My family left Sao Miguel in the late 1800s. We have a partial family
tree back to late 1600s. I would be glad to share this with anyone. We are
visiting Sao Miguel in late October, and would like to be able to meet any
relatives still there. If there is any way that the family tree can grow
with information from this group, this would be greatly appreciated.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Priests

2018-06-29 Thread Maria Sousa
If a child is born and becomes a priest as an adult, would there be an
indication in the left margin of the child's birth record?

Are there any records for Priests of a certain parish? I am looking for a
priest at Nossa Senhora do Rosario in Lomba de Maia, Sao Miguel.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Sao Miguel history

2018-06-29 Thread Rosemarie Capodicci
Here are Cheri's instructions on how to transfer the DNA data from Ancestry
to FamilyTreeDna.com:

1) Download the raw data from Ancestry DNA:
https://support.ancestry.com/s/article/Downloading-Raw-DNA-Data-1460089696533

2) While waiting for the file to be compiled and emailed, create an account
on FTDNA:
https://www.familytreedna.com/autosomal-transfer

3) Download the raw data file that is in the email. Hopefully, it downloads
to the Download folder or the Desktop.

4) AncestryDNA changed their chip again and it's incompatible. Use this
converter tool:
http://www.mapmy23.com/tools/ancestry_ftdna_fix.php

5) Upload the raw data to the FTDNA page. Then join the Azores DNA project.

How to join a Project:

Log into the FTDNA page with the kit number and password.

Across the top is says: myFTDNA, DNA Tests, ProjectsPoint at Projects.
When the drop down menu appears, click "Join a project."

If the Azores Islands appears on the top, click the link and scroll down to
the JOIN button at the end.

If the Azores Islands is not suggested, scroll down to where it says
"Search by Surname" and type: azores.

When Azores Islands appears, click the link and follow the directions.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Manuel Furtado (1750s-1813) & Marianna da Trindade (1750s-1823) of Vila Franca & Ponta Garca

2018-06-29 Thread Cheri Mello
Hi Altino,

Those are the children of Manuel Furtado & Mariana da Trindade. None of the
kids married their cousins, so there's no dispensation to pull. So I'm
after the grandkids. I don't have ALL the grandkids in my computer. So I
need a GRANDCHILD who hopefully married a cousin. Maybe a GREAT-GRANDCHILD.
The kids did not marry cousins. Rats! Cheri
