I meant: have you been able to access SC7 before trying to shut it
 down?
If it wasn't running, then it can't be shut down :-).
Sorry; misunderstood. Yes; I can connect to players, scan music, play
music, play internet radio, etc. Just can't shut down from tray icon.

can you telnet localhost 9090 from the command line, and get a clean,
 black rectangle?
No; get message Could not open connection to the host...

I can telnet to 9000, 10002 (MusicIP head).

Did some poking around; can't figure out what's blocking the port.
Don't see anything in group policy settings in registry (I'm running SC
 on my company-issued laptop); Windows firewall is off (by group policy);
see settings in Windows firewall exceptions listing for SqueezeCenter
9000 tcp and SqueezeCenter 3483 udp. (For grins; not knowing if it was
even a correct setting, I tried adding a 9090 each way; no affect.)

Never had this problem with 6.x versions, up through 6.5.

Are you using some 3rd party firewall on Windows? This message should
only show up if SqueezeTray can't connect to SC. This means either SC
wasn't running any more, or some firewall blocked access to port 9090.

Disabled Symantec firewall; no effect. SC is running; I can exit SC; I
just can't stop it. It continues running.

Oh, third possibility: did you disable the CLI plugin?

 Nope.

Not sure where the Event Viewer is...
 Windows settings / administrative tools.

Ah; that one. Was looking for some log in the program. Cleared all
logs; tried to stop SC. Get error window; no messages in any portion
of Event Viewer (application, internet, security, system).

Running SqueezeCenter 2/11 nightlies (although this problem cropped up
when I switched to v.7). When I try to stop SC from the system tray
icon, I get a pop-up SqueezeCenter error window with the message:

Not sure where the Event Viewer is, and whether this forum is the
appropriate place to seek the support.

Thanks for any pointers to resolve ...
