The other nice thing would be if we could produce libtool-style linker
scripts that allowed us to link a single file and get all the
inter-library dependancies right for free.

I looked into what it would take to just use libtool once, but it
would require this change, and we'd have to get the profiling mode
working in libtool. (If we were willing to do the first, I would
cheerfully work on the second. I would love to see the hurd package
use automake and libtool to show off how the can be used for
translators)

Tks,

 Q2, 2002 Report To Subscribers

The Internet's commercial start was in 1993 and in Q2 the total users worldwide will exceed 500,000,000. In the next thirty months, the number of Internet users will double again to one billion.

The biggest growth in Internet users will come from high-speed cellular, digital television, PDAs, and voice. Does your Web Site allow for cellular and PDA users?

In Q2, the number of cellular users will exceed the number of land lines in the world. Total cellular users currently exceed 1,050,000,000.

Doing business via cell phones is termed mCommerce. The Mobile Commerce team is counting on a new generation of service called the `Third Generation' or 3G. Real 3G service is limited to Tokyo and a few European cities.

North America is working on 2.5G; which translates to Internet delivery at 64Kbs, versus the existing 19.2 Kbs. Look for better speeds and more services in 2003.

The world of electronic purchasing on the Internet is increasing along household income lines: 75% of households with more than $75,000 have bought online; while 25% of the $25,000 income group has bought online.

Older shoppers buy more online: 56% of the 35-54 year old segment has made online purchases versus only 42% of 18-24 year olds.

Hot numbers from CEIR: 9 out of 10 American companies have an exhibition budget for 2002; of which 40% will be greater than 2001 and 50% will remain the same.

In Q2, for the first time, more traffic will be delivered over high-speed Internet than dial-up. Dial-up users still out-number high-speed users two to one.

Please take a minute and tell us what is important to you in Q2 and beyond:

This is the root misconception. FAT *does* have inodes. What it
doesn't have is *disk inodes*. Or rather, it *does* have disk inodes,
which are physically stored in the parent directory, and there is a
rule that non-directory files can have only one link.

Ok, I've now had a chance to think more about this.

This is basically sure to be wrong, at least, it will suffer from the
consistency problems that I mentioned in the previous message I sent.

I will think about how to make fatfs work, but I don't think this kind
of "solution" is at all right.

Actually, you can add them directly to the Makefile.am file.

Allow me to add a detail or two. Using libstore, it appears that we
can only create libraries with the names of the form
`libstore_part-0.2.so'. The code in libstore/module.c, however, is
looking for file names of the genre `libstore_part.so.0.2'. Or, to
put it simply, libtool uses one naming scheme and the Hurd uses
another.

What we are looking for, essentially, is to either make the Hurd
conform to the libtools' naming scheme or vica verse. Looking at /lib
on my system does not make it clear to me that one is preferred over
the other; both seem to be used pervasively throughout.

salut,

sorry still the same problem, whatever i do, i can't find a clean way to
name the parted module libstore_part.so.0.2 with automake

i thougt about different solutions :
add an installation rule to link from the real library to the needed
name
or don't use automake, whereas parted use automake (really ugly)
or change the needed name ;)

btw: why doesn't the Hurd use automake ?
