Okay, it says I need to use the kmod-rt5390sta package. Thanks for the
help. I hope this works for him. He's out in California and I'm in
Virginia. It's not easy fixing issues when you can't get your hands on
the equipment. Thank you again.

That firmware is the correct firmware for that package - if you try to
install that driver rpm you will find it actually Requires that firmware
package so yum will pull it in automatically for you.

For more help (if required), please follow Akemi's advice above.

I maintain these Ralink wireless driver packages for elrepo. I've had
virtually zero feedback on whether they work or not - if they don't work
for you then I'm happy to work with you to fix the issue, although the
elrepo bug tracker/mailing lists are probably the best place for that.

These particular vendor-supplied drivers are largely unmaintained by
Ralink now - their developers appear to prefer to maintain the drivers
in the kernel tree. To that end, the compat-wireless package may also
contain drivers for your device, but we are unable to offer any more
specific advice without knowing vendor:device ID pairing as mentioned by
Akemi.

Hope that helps.

Are you looking for firmware or a driver? Firmware can always be acquired
from the vendor. You may not need updated firmware, anyway. But you want
the drivers, of course. And that package *is* for that chip.

You need to find out a vendor:device ID pairing of your device. For

[CentOS] Ralink Corp RT5390 Wireless

2012-12-13 Thread Mark LaPierre
Hey All,

In looking for a solution for the subject wireless on my friend's Asus
A54C laptop I found this entry:

http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=39054&forum=55

rt2860-firmware-26-1.el6.elrepo.noarch.rpm
kmod-rt5390sta-2.5.0.3-1.el6.elrepo.x86_64.rpm

This solution appears to have worked for the RT3090. Would these be the
right rpm's for my friend to install to get his RT5390 working? No
wait, I found this using the Add/Remove software tool. The rt2860 rpm
says, "This package contains the firmware required by Ralink RT28XX/RT30XX".

I don't see a package for the RT53XX. What now Charley Brown?
