You probably have an old DN model. You can't use the
external regulator with an internal one. It's one or
the other. If your not concerned about being correct
as far as originality, I would suggest you move up to
a SI alternator. A 12SI 94 amp is simple to install.
They're are several sites to help you do this. These
are a couple of links for you to look at.
This is a good article...
http://hotrod.com/techarticles/pit/index15.html
also M.A.D. has alot of info.
http://www.madelectrical.com/electricaltech/delcoremy.shtml
The fact that you have a serpentine belt means nothing
as far as which alt. you have. You can put that belt
on just about anything with the right pulleys. Hope
this helps you out. I did this swap to a 12 SI on my
'66.
You won't regret it. Especially if your in a slow
cruise. And if you add air, radio amp, elect. fans,
etc later on you'll be all set with enough amps to run
everything.

 the old voltage regulator

If it's a DN old style you have an external

[Chevelle-list] dash lights fuse

2005-09-15 Thread John Nasta
Does anybody know the number of the fuse for the dash instrument lights?
It's the short fuse all the way on the bottom of the 1969 fuse block. I am
guessing SFE-4 because that's what my 1968 Olds called for and the El Camino
fuse block does indicate that it should be a 4A fuse. I have a AGW-5 here
but it seems too long to fit into the spot (even though it's shorter than my
other fuses).

stance but nothing real crazy. Anybody have any prefferences or

where originally a dark grey but they would look sweet chromed. Any

[Chevelle-list] Octane (OT)

2005-09-15 Thread Brian Knight
Hi guys. I have a 350 that is still factory original ('87), and was
built to run on 87 octane and has for years. Lately, it has pinged and
rattled a lot and I tried 93 octane and that really made a difference. My
question is what has happened (worn out?) to cause the need for the extra
octane?

 Any ideas?

Maybe the timing has jumped ahead a bit, a tooth or so on the timing
chain would increase the timing and cause some detonation that would
get better with higher octane. I'm probably wrong, but if the engine
has enough miles it could be possible.
