The question makes very little sense. Among other things, it refers 
to the "server" as part of the "backbone."  Bad idea. Routers and 
switches define backbones.

Yes, the server could have multiple infrastructure functions. Is that 
a good idea, considering security and availability?  What can get to 
it? Is it firewalled? Why not?
