If you operate a boat, even a sailboat, you need to know rules of the road, basic seamanship and marine safety. I'm always amazed at the low level of knowledge of many boaters. I once sailed in convoy with another sailboat. We came to a major ship channel with a LARGE ship transiting the channel. The other sailor appeared to believe he had right of way over this large ship in a confined channel. The ship sounded the six whistle alarm. I hailed my buddy and suggested he tack out of the ship's way. :) Dennis C. Five long farts means 'You are in immediate danger.' Ducks know this, which is why they normally do three quacks (because they're backing up) but when you hear a duck give you five quacks you need to ... duck. I had a friend do the captain's course, and he was really excited the day he learned what a bollard is. He was talking about bollards for weeks. Every time I see one I think of him.
