Binary package hint: compiz

After leaving the window picker through use of a hot corner, the
keybinding for 'zoom window' is not returned, and so that key cannot be
used with other programs unless compiz is restarted.

Steps to reproduce:

In the 'scale addons' plugin, set a single key for 'zoom window'. I'll use 
spacebar as an example.
In simple ccsm, set a hot corner to 'initiate window picker'.
Put your mouse in that corner to initiate the window picker.
Put your mouse in the same corner again to return from the window picker.

Expected behaviour:

spacebar (or whatever key was set) should be able to be used normally
whilst not in the window picker.

Actual behaviour:

After using the window picker, spaces can't be typed anymore. xev
instead registers a press of the spacebar as:

FocusOut event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x561,
mode NotifyGrab, detail NotifyAncestor

FocusIn event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x561,
mode NotifyUngrab, detail NotifyAncestor

KeymapNotify event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x0,
keys:  2   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   
   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0


This problem only occurs when using a hot corner to both enter and exit the 
window picker. If say super-w is used to enter, and corner to exit, or corner 
to enter and super-w to exit, or super-w to both enter and exit, the spacebar 
continues to work normally.

I'm using ubuntu 10.10 64 bit, with compiz 1:0.8.6-0ubuntu9, as listed
by the package manager.

The edge snap behavior in Compiz is fairly strange to me, and I'm having
trouble getting accustomed to it.  I think most window managers going
back more than a decade through Metacity, Sawfish, Enlightenment,
WindowMaker, AfterStep, and FVWM have used roughly the same algorithms.
It would be best if Compiz could continue this historical behavior.  On
MS Windows, I even use a utility called "allSnap" which operates very
similarly to historical Unix window managers.

When I press the "enable compositing" button nothing happens.  Also, the
CCSM window will close occasionally when I select a checkbox, or attempt
to access an options menu.  When I type "compiz --replace" in a
terminal, I lose my window borders and all windows become unresponsive
when I change window focus or open a new window.

I am using an aspire one AOA150 with an integrated i945 GME graphics
controller.

I apologize for the split post, I was interrupted in the middle of the
first post with something that required I turn off my computer.

I can confirm this bug.  I performed a version upgrade through package
manager and everything worked fine after the upgrade until I finished my
post-upgrade updates.  Now I cannot enable compiz or the extra effects
settings.  In addition, when I try to access the settings for any of the
compiz effects through CCSM, the option screens all come up blank.  I
have attampted to remove and reinstall all compiz and intel video driver
related packages, with no success.  When I attempt to select the extra
settings in the appearance menu, a "searching for drivers" dialog
appears for a few seconds, then the screen flickers and a box with the
message "cannot enable desktop effects" appears.  When I attempt to
check the "openGL" box in CCSM, I am told I need to enable compositing.

Under lucid lynx I could use the "vanilla" extra visual effects with no problem 
watsoever (whobbly windows and transparent gnome-terminal with underlying open 
windows).
After upgrading to maverick meerkat I get weird behaviour; I enabled skewer and 
burn up effect on open/close and minimize/maximize, but even disabling advanced 
animation and leaving only wobbly windows and proper transparency, the extra 
effects get disabled behind my back during normal use, at random, or when I do 
something somehow "stressful" for the effect, such as opening the compiz 
settings manager from system>preferences

Good workaround:

 In gnome, click System -> Preferences -> Apprearance -> Visual Effects
and change to "None".
