[Cooker] ok...NFS not working
I get a "permission denied" error. pinging works and i can log into my computer via ftp. I have teh exportfs setup (I also had to install the 2 nfs*.rpm files from cdrom manually). The install that i did was a "custom" > "default" (instead of my usual experimental, etc). i've tried logging in as root and trying the mount "manually" but still same error. i do know that it is contacting the other computer because entering a different ip/name, it tends to stall. entering the correct ip generates teh error immediately. i've read some newsposts stating where people had to reinstalled/rebuilt kernel and got it working successfully. Any thoughts on this? [Cooker] ADSL testers wanted?
I've just installed Mandrake 7.0 with "lnx4win" (just until I learn the Linux O.S.) I'm having a problem with my internet connection. It's ADSL, and I've read that you are looking for testers. ... any thoughts? ... is it, maybe, because of the lnx4win configuration! I'm dual booting win98 and win2000 at present and have no problems with the automatic configuration. Jake.

This is a simple problem. Find the file : lib.inc.php3 (should be in the PhpMyAdmin directory), go to line 119 and repleace the 9 with 10. [Cooker] SuCcEsS! (local lan while ip alias to seperate outside cable access)
Well, i don't see this too much and have yet to see any howto's. All I get/got for help was something to the effect, "...you'd be better off getting another NIC card", of course that would require another irq! here's my layout: IP#'s assigned to the 2 different computers are: Computer #1 = 24.aa.aa.aa (ip for local access = 192.168.0.a) Computer #2 = 24.bb.bb.bb (ip for local access = 192.168.0.b) 2 nic's connected via ethernet hub with a source to a cable modem. As such, this works similarly to the netbui or ipx protocals for network w/i a windows to windows enviroment, except in linux i had to set it up mainly (of course). I now have access to and from both computers taking advantage of 10/100 mb/s access. (i'm now ready for NFS!...or samba...etc) I have successfully retained the computers individual outside ip assigned by my cable internet service. What i did: 1) configured my hosts files according to the howto on www.mandrakeusers.org 2) used the drakex>networking> Server Tasks> IP alias for vh. Added the 192.168.0.a/b alias numbers according to each a and b computer. 3) restarted the network (as instructed in #1). 4) Last step is to configure hosts deny to "all" once everything works. I am totally surprised that there is "no howto" for this. I only had "bits and pieces" of howto's. I would have to say, that there are allot of COX @HOME USERS that will have seperate ip numbers for working w/i the win98 enviroment. They would typically have 2 (or more computers within the home connected via an ethernet hub). This h/w layout is becoming more and mroe popular. As such, would someone please take this info and describe it within one of the present howto's? such as teh micro lan on www.mandrakeusers.org? Of course, the only really thing needed to add to that one is the "alias" setup w/i the network config. btw: i really like the seperate button w/i the drakex config for the "Network" area. saves a click. whether or not it's in "proper" layout ...dunno. Re: [Cooker] ftp as root
thanx for the info/help. trying to get both my computers configured as 192.168.0.1/ & .2 up and running while keeping their individual ip numbers for cable network address. keep getting problems where one works and the other doesnt' and vice-versa...pain in the but using an ethernet hub and 2 nic cards. don't have enough irq's for another nic card on each tho' i'll do alittle research with the info you gave. thanx. <@#$!#%!$#> On Sat, 29 Jan 2000, you wrote: > Use ssh2 if you are able. > sftp works in sync with ssh2 and > you must be root or su to run it. > Works well for me. had teh /dev/hda1 folder open on kde desktop when getting continuous crashes. as default the kde (desktop) decided to try and open this (dos) folder by default each time. as such, crashed or freezed the entire system. work around: restart (either in init3 or the failsafe desktop) as root. umount the dev (/dev/hda1 in my case) and then startup the kde desktop. the folder won't display the offending folder since it's not mounted and operations within (kde/gnome/ etc) will resume normally. I presently have my hybridized L-M 7.0+Cooker+kde1+kde2 functioning in a somewhat reasonable manner. Have recently down an upgrade of the latest rpms except for kernel, kde1 and XFree86. This has been a "slash and burn" some force/nodeps, but all in all produces decent results. For example I am running L-M 6.1 on Server with Client 7.0-Cooker hybrid exporting Display kde1 and kde2 to separate XConsoles on Server at the same time as well as several resident WindowManagers on Server. Any suggestions? I will be attempting to upgrade the kde1 rpms as well as kde2 and wonder what the proper proceedure would be to keep both intact? Thanks William Bouterse Juneau Alaska

BX before VIA, and nothing i8 should even be considered. As far as P3's go, any 100mhz fsb cpu, Katmai or Coppermine, is preferable to any 133mhz fsb cpu. This is for ram, and agp considerations on a BX motherboard. eg, you can run a 133mhz cpu on a BX board, and your pci bus is in spec at 33.3mhz, but the agp bus is 89mhz, and all but unusable. Quality ram will run at 100mhz at cas2 timings, much harder and more expensive to find cas2 pc133. I'd suggest the Soyo 6ba+III $90 (or 6ba+IV if you believe there's anything to be gained with ata/66). Before I'd read anything on ZDnet, I'd check reviews at Tom's, Anand's, Ars Technica, BXboards, and most oc'ing pages, etc. > > (The PCs run Pentium III CPUs up to 550MHz and are Linux/Windows98 > dual-boot.
