[Cooker] Beta3 and SnapScan1212u

2002-08-20 Thread Serge Plüss

Hi

after clean install of Beta3 I use the Mandrake Control Center to try to
configure the Agfa SnapScan 1212u. It says it detects it and asks me if I
want it to be configured and I say yes. An icon is placed on my desktop for a
link for Xsane to /dev/usb/scanner0
I then copied the Snapscan1212U_2bin file to /usr/local/etc and edited the
/etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf file to point to that file.
In the same file I also changed the device to be /dev/usb/scanner0 and I then
used the agfafirm script to load the bin file onto the scanner.

But if I try to use the link created by the Control Center I get an error
that there is no such device.

I then used sane-find-scanner and it properly finds and identifies the
scanner.

By looking further I noticed that the /etc/sane.d/dll.conf file only had one
line in it with the word
###
net

I added snapscan to that file and voila I was able to scan.

Shouldn't the Control Center Scanner utility add that line when it says it
configures that scanner and that it is ready to use?

Thanks

This is not necessary any more, the sane backend does it (which is why
you need to list the file in the snapscan.conf). At least, it works on
my Acer Prisa 640U.

It should. This wasn't a problem in 8.2, since the dll.conf listed all
backends, but caused sane access to be slow (probing all backends).

It would also be nice if it asked you the path to the firmware file (or
prompted you for your driver CD?).

And an option to setup saned would be nice too, it's a bit of a mission
(related to devfs and perms).

Actually, it might be less effort to have all scanner access via saned?
