Er, I should clarify: "note the very small size" = "note the very small *file*
size".

It's smaller than the current image (2.5K vs 18K). It could remain very small
as long as the color patch didn't take up a lot of physical space (= less of a
burden on compression). Of course, the color should be placed within the
640x480 area so it's visible at all resolutions...

In the XFree configuration, I chose "test configuration". Some time ago, it was
discussed on the Cooker mailing list to have a background image. None appears,
just a blank background. This doesn't make it possible to confirm the
resolution, just the operation of XFree. (And even then, you have to know that
the "x" cursor means that the X server/client is working.)

Would it be possible to include something that shows tick marks (at 800x600,
1024x768, ...) for resolutions on some very large, non-scaled image? Then the
user can confirm that the correct one was chosen.

Created an attachment (id=841)
 --> (http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/attachment.cgi?id=841&action=view)
sample resolution test image

Displays common resolutions up to 1400x1050. Note the very small size!

Jsut add come colors, display unscaled anchored at the upper-left corner of the
screen. Basta! You have a color + resolution test.

I'd like to repoen this because it's not a dup of bug 5410.

In fact, what is missing is a way to confirm the selected *resolution* for
XFree. That is, a sort of grill of lines that mark typical screen sizes. By
displaying the image at (0,0) on the screen, the last lines shown would then
correspond to the current resolution.

The difference is that the colors, while nice, only confirm that XFree is
working. A grill in addition (the same image) would allow to also confirm the
corect native size.
