You can add: tty1 tty2 and vc/1 vc/2 Then both kernels (2.2/2.3) will work). I posted about mounting shm from fstab, but maybe this isnt good, we must do "grep shm /proc/filesystems>/dev/null" because shm will fail when booting to a 2.2 kernel. We need to be able to handle both 2.2 and 2.3 well.

Hi! A few weeks ago I wrore solution of this, anyway: In /etc/securetty already is: tty1 tty2 ... To /etc/securetty add lines: vc/1 vc/2 vc/3 ... In case that this doesn't help you, try: 1 2 3 ... Dont run msec batch because it edits /etc/securetty and remming othervalues than tty*. I hope it's helped you. There are some problems with ppp in latest kernels. Are you using
hackkernel? It is 2.3.99-pre4-pre3, and should include some ppp fixes.

Mount a filesystem of type 'shm' on /var/shm...

ive got a different but similar login problem
Running 2.3.99pre3 (and same in pre1 {pre2 didn't comp}) I can login
to the system fine but the pppd does not function. Any help ?? I get
an http error during boot to late for dmesg something about shm file
system??

I just tried 2.3.99 with alans latest ac patch and i got problem. I can't login as root from the console. In the log I get login: FAILD LOGIN 1 FROM (null) FOR root, Authentication failure.
