Our main internet connection is 100/20 from Comcast. It has been surprisingly reliable - I have seen Alex's anguished tweets to @comcastcares (or whatever it is) and am thankful Comcast here is pretty good. We back it up with a 20/? connection from AT&T. It's obviously much slower than the Comcast connection, but it is there and does get used on the rare occasions that Comcast goes out. I'm not sure the layout of where you are but rooftop service providers are popping up all over the country as they are pretty easy to implement. Heck you could do it yourself if you get up there and see a building of someone you know that has better connectivity. Internet downtime sucks and we’re in a similar situation, having only one ISP option. We tried an LTE backup and it was actually worse than not having internet when it goes down. At least when it’s down you know it’s down vs. when the LTE backup kicks in and it’s frustratingly slow but people try to use it anyway.
