Re: xwinclip/-clipboard - Development on no selection stealing version
This implies the branch tag 'XFIXES_BRANCH' doesn't exist. Maybe, try: $ cvs checkout -r XFIXES xc If that fails, just checkout as normal (ie drop the -r tag), and do a 'cvs log' on the file to examine what tags are available to checkout the code on. Hope this helps! PS When will the next test release become available, with those SEGV fixes? I get a SEGV when copying ~100 lines of text from a gnome-terminal onto the clipboard, with the -clipboard feature enabled. I posted the backtrace some time ago (4 weeks?). Many thanks! Xwin and freetype...
Most users may not know why their anti-aliased fonts look ugly. The problem is that the XFree86 4.x sources contain quite an old version of libfreetype, causing this. Yuk! To override it, install the current freetype 2.1.4 libraries in /usr/lib, which usually get searched before the /usr/X11R6/lib directory; fonts in apps that use freetype (eg Gnome 2 + KDE 3) look *far* clearer and legible when much smaller! Anyone have any idea how hard it is to get freetype into the cygwin distro tree? Re: Freetype on cygwin link...
Hello Daniel, This is a good starting point: http://koeln.convey.de/cywgin/freetype/ This is the libtoolized version which installs into /usr/local/bin , ../lib and ../include, so it will not override the freetype importlibs, the headers. The patch at this site includes all the autogenerated files (libtool, Makefile.in et.al.) so it is large. Probably it would be better to have it in /usr/X11R6 than in /usr/local since the DLL names are not the same, one can install the version included with Xfree86 and this one together. (Don't miss to change the .la and .pc and the freetype-config files to point to the place you install it). Gerrit -- =^..^=

Can you post the result of a 'cvs log file' on any file, please? You may want to trim all the revision notes - the goodness we want is at the top of the output. Dan --- No luck I'm afraid. Normally, you'd propose the ITP on cygwin-apps at cygwin dot com, and go from there (it's a packaging and functionality review process, plus voting). However, your package is tied to XFree86, so, according to http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin-apps/2003-06/msg00043.html, it should be approved (voted for?) on this list (cygwin-xfree at cygwin dot com). I'm sure people on cygwin-apps will review the packaging anyway if you submit the ITP there. FreeType is just a little more complex than packages that are using automake. And the above could be done as part of the conf() step in the suggested build script (see http://cygwin.com/setup.html). Note that there were some improvements proposed for the build script - see the cygwin-apps archives. yast2
I run KDE locally on my win2k desktop. I often ssh -X over to a SuSE box and run evolution. It works well. I just tried running yast2 on the SuSE box, and it fails with: === # yast2 X Error: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation) 1 Major opcode: 149 Minor opcode: 4 Resource id: 0x36 Xlib: extension XInputExtension missing on display localhost:11.0. Failed to get list of devices Xlib: extension XInputExtension missing on display localhost:11.0. After the above, a basically blank window opens and hangs. I also tried setting the DISPLAY variable to directly use my screen, same problem. Should this work? Or am I hoping for too much? TIA Greg -- Greg Freemyer
