Re: how to: chroot 32bit (forgot one thing)

2005-03-30 Thread Erik Norman
Hi again,

I forgot one question:

"You also need a link to your 32bit linker in the /lib path. Change in
to directory /lib and create a link to the 32bit linker library of your
chroot: (The name of the 64bit linker is ld-linux-x86-64.so.2)"

According to the instructions I entered the chroot. Do I have to exit
the chroot, or not?
Why not write down the complete command, so newbies (like me) can just
copy and paste the command?

Thanx, Erik

how to: chroot 32bit

2005-03-30 Thread Erik Norman
Hello,

I wanted to point out that I had (still have) some problems to
UNDERSTAND the "how to"-instructions to set up a chroot-environment for
the 32bit applications.

There is the possibility of mounting it.
Which instructions should be left out, if I don't want have it
mounted?

Why not add a valid /etc/sources.list for the 32bit applications? (Just
to start easily; who then knows better can always use a "better one")
For example, I could not find the package libx11-6.

The command "chroot /var/chroot/sid-ia32" is twice on that page.
Didn't I already chroot? Is it needed twice?

Erik

If you reply to all, then all people mentioned in the letter will
recieve a copy.

Now, this mail will arrive twice to you (directly and through the

desktop problems

2005-03-08 Thread Erik Norman
Hello,

I don't know why,
I logged off saving my session.
When I logged on again I got a error message that a program (aMule) was
not able to be opened automatically.
Then I discovered that my desktop had disappeared.
No background image (just a dizzy grey), no possibility of clicking with
the right mouse button to open the menu (useful for opening a terminal
etc.), no wastebasket, no folders.

I guess/hope it won't be difficult to restore it or to
uninstall-reinstall it, but I don't know where to start.

apt-get source for the 32 bit environment

2005-02-27 Thread Erik Norman
Hello!

I am slowly setting up the chroot environment for 32bit applications.

The only thing I get mad about is a good source.list for apt-get.

I have looked up apt-get.org and debian.org and googled somewhat, but I
am not happy yet.
Is it possibile that somebody could mail me his/her source.list, please?

Hello,

This is the error message I get when I start k3b.

Unable to find cdrecord executable

Well:

cdrecord is already the newest version.

Since I am newbie to Debian (I have used Fedora before) there is still

Re: FW: anybody help me? dependency problem: no way back??? SOLVED

2005-02-20 Thread Erik Norman
I have resolved the problem

I used the Synaptic Package Manager to remove the package with the
broken dependency, then I removed xmms-kde and xmms.
Upgrade (without problems)
Install xmms-kde and xmms and all other packages which were removed at
the same time (kde kdeaddons kdenetwork kicker-applets kopete
mplayer-amd64 xmp-xmms) -> no problems.

apt-get upgrade
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

Problem solved.

Thanx for any help!

anybody help me? dependency problem: no way back???

2005-02-20 Thread Erik Norman
I made an upgrade with atp-get after having installed some packages.
I got some dependency problems, so I tried

fzr:/# apt-get check
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  libc6-dev: Depends: libc6 (= 2.3.2.ds1-20.0.0.1.pure64) but
2.3.2.ds1-20 is installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f.

fzr:/# apt-get install -f
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Correcting dependencies... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
  libc6
Suggested packages:
  glibc-doc
The following packages will be upgraded:
  libc6
1 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 59 not upgraded.
1 not fully installed or removed.
Need to get 0B/4318kB of archives.
After unpacking 0B of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] y
(Reading database ... 87507 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace libc6 2.3.2.ds1-20
(using .../libc6_2.3.2.ds1-20.0.0.1.pure64_amd64.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement libc6 ...
dpkg: error
processing /var/cache/apt/archives/libc6_2.3.2.ds1-20.0.0.1.pure64_amd64.deb
(--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/lib64', which is also in package xmms-kde
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/libc6_2.3.2.ds1-20.0.0.1.pure64_amd64.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

The problem is that I can't remove xmms-kd3, but I can't force any
installation.
HELP!

mounting a SATA drive

2005-02-15 Thread Erik Norman
Hello!

I have installed the system on a IDE harddisk.
I wondered how to mount a SATA harddisk.

I use a Asrock K8 Combo-Z motherboard, i think the driver is ALI153X or
similar...

graphical server

2005-02-13 Thread Erik Norman
Hello!

My system is up and running, but still completely in text mode.
I have installed several packages with apt-get (from k3b to xmms to
evolution etc.) but I am not able to start the graphical server.

I used Fedora Core3 until yesterday and there it just to type startx.
I get some error messages (file - directory not found or similar) ...

I am still a newbie to Linux..

Can anyone give me an advice what to do?

Is there a graphical server configuration tool (for setting up graphic
card and monitor, xorg.conf etc.)?

Erik

mirror search: problem found? but how to resolve it??

2005-02-13 Thread Erik Norman
Hello,

I have tried again several times, and now i found something weird:

I entered the mirror domain:
debian-amd64.alioth.debian.org
then I added the directory:
/pure64/dists/sid/main/binary-amd64/

well, the output was the following:
Debootstrap Error
Faild getting Release file
http://debian-amd64.alioth.debian.org/pure64/dists/sid/main/binary-
amd64/dists//Release.

The installer adds some "rubbish" to the correct link I specify.

Is there a way to manually insert the link?
I entered the menu : Select mirror.

install problems amd64: mirror search

2005-02-13 Thread Erik Norman
Hello!

I have problems setting the right mirror to install debian on my amd64
computer.

I can't really explain where the error is, if I knew that I would be
able to resolve the problem.

I configure the network manually (I know the IP, the broadcast, the
gateway, etc. by heart), then I enter the mirror manually
debian.inode.at/debian-amd64/pure64/
then I am not really sure which directory to enter. I have entered
several directories (I have been trying all day now)
I think this should be correct.
dists/sid/main/binary-amd64/

The error message is always the same:
the mirror is unreachable or not the correct release file or similar.

If I enter the normal mirrors, then it does not find any binary packages
for amd64..

Anybody able to help me?

(Don't care if the mirror is slow, as long as I get it working)

Erik
