Re: Why daily builds on the installer page for testing point to sid?
2007/3/10, Francesco Pietra <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: Though a trivial question for most (not me), what is the correct procedure AT THIS TIME to bring etch to sid? As others said before, sid/unstable will never be something else. So /etc/apt/sources.list must point to sid or unstable to bring etch to sid. Leaving it sources.list point to etch, actually a symlink to testing, will suddenly (when etch will be released) bring you to stable. At that time a "new testing" will born and a new codename will be assigned to. see http://www.debian.org/releases/ the way for both amd64 and i386? I assume that this upgrades the Linux kernel too. What about X? (I do not use nVidia drivers, enough 2D acceleration in my case). My amd64 machine is raid1. Release process is the same for both amd64 and i386 archs. etch will ships kernel 2.6.18 See debian release notes draft for Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 ("etch"), http://www.debian.org/releases/testing/amd64/release-notes/ch-whats-new.en.html#s-inst-changes Thanks francesco pietra cheers raffaele

Hi everybody, could someone post a mirror for amd64 etch. thanx
Re: kernel compile.again.
HiI had the same problem, but if I remember well it's a known issue with gcc-4.x and kernel-2.6.xSwithching to gcc-2.95 should remove the problem. Try with a symbolic link to the gcc you want to use.I am running amd64 on a dual opteron proliant server and got several depedencies problems with libncurses5 when trying to recompile, even if I switch. 2006/10/25, C_Wakefield <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: Greetings.Still trying to understand why I can't seem to run any kernels I compile.Been trying since 2.6.17 on my new amd64-X2 and since then the only kernelthat'll boot is a 2.6.16-2-amd64-k8-smp.I've tried using the debian amd64 kernel conifig on most kernels as well, with no joy.Kind of at the end of the rope here with ideas. NOW I'm beginning to thinkit's the compiler, 4.1? I've noticed that 2.6.16-2 is compiled with 4.0.How do I specify gcc 4.0 instead of 4.1 to compile a kernel?
