We need to go though the whole New Language Process as we did for "ug"
with Gheyret Kenji

Please notice however, that a new translation adds an extra size to
the installer so we need some good rock solid rationale for adding a
variant of an existing language.

Also, variants have not been proven as working properly as of now : we
for instance have a "sr@latin" variant for Serbian that is not
activated yet because supporting it requires changes to localechooser
that nobody did until now.

(the main problem comes from the fact that localechooser assumes that
the chosen language code and the chosen country can be concatenated :
fr for language then FR as country, give "fr_FR".while this
doesn't work for "sr@latin" combined with a country code such as "RS"
as the locale should be "sr_RS@latin", not sr@latin_RS)

It's a matter of a few days for weeks already. I don't hold my breath. We'll
have an installer release without it, I guess.

Since Guillem announced that 1.16.2 should be uploaded to sid shortly, I
did not bother replying. It seems to take a bit longer than announced but
hopefully it's a matter of a few days at most now.

Adding New Script Variants on Debian Installer

2012-03-17 Thread Eagle Burkut
Dear Debian Developers/Maintainers,

How can we have new language/script on debian installer? Is there any
requirement? If there is, what is the requirement?

Ubuntu uses Debian Installer and it has Arabic based Uyghur. We need Latin
based Uyghur too.

Thanks.

Grub-pc grub-install doesn't write to 1st sector of partition

2012-03-17 Thread fabienst
Hello,

I guess I have the same issue as in #611463
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=611463

On squeeze with v 1.98+20100804-14+squeeze1 the following command doesn't
write anything to the 1st sector of the partition.

grub-install --force /dev/sda11

I tested it with grub-pc from testing (1.99-14) and it works fine.

Are there any plans to fix grub-pc of squeeze in an upcoming squeeze update ?
Or would it be better that I ask for a backport ?

Kind regards
Fabien

Time for me to switch..:-)

First glitch I had : I did setup DEBCONF_USE_CDEBCONF=1, then I ran
"dpkg-reconfigure samba" and.I ended up with the "text" interface
and not the "newt" one.

Running "dpkg-reconfigure cdebconf" (which indeed defaulted to "newt"
for the interface) fixed the problem.

Other glitches will come later on (though I don't do much interactive
use of debconf as my laptop is mostly updated with apt-cron).
