Perhaps it is just that I am not really fluent in CVS, but it appears that although the information could still be extracted somehow, a new comer interested in providing traditional Chinese translations may never notice that there were previous efforts which he may find useful (as there is no trace of the file in CVS web presentation and CVS checkouts), and decide that he need to start from scratch. Thus my comment on duplication of efforts. -- Chuan-kai Lin -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The story goes as follows: back in January 2001, the msgmerge I had (which came with potato, I believe) did not understand big5 encoding. As some lad was careful enough to include '\\' into big5 when he designed it, msgmerge bombs out lots of error messages. In order to work around the problem, I tweaked the Makefile so that update-zh_TW first iconv the file into UTF-8, invoke msgmerge, and then iconv the UTF-8 version back to big5. It was a sound solution then. However, then somebody implemented the proper encoding support into msgmerge. Since I had not bothered changing the encoding field of the .po file from big5 to UTF-8, msgmerge complained loud and clear. So in order to work around a bug, I carelessly introduced another through a hack. But I guess it is not the first time it happened. The good news is, I have managed to complete traditional Chinese translation during the week, and I will commit the changes into the CVS this weekend, after some more tests to make sure that everything goes the way it is supposed to be. Regarding traditional Chinese translation of dbootstrap
Greetings, I have previously (a long time ago) maintained the traditional Chinese translation of dbootstrap, and noticed this afternoon that zh_TW.po was removed from the CVS tree in last October. I am now in the process of updating my previous backup of the file, and should be able to finish the task in two weeks. Or perhaps one week if things go as smoothly as expected. Hopefully it will get back into the tree before woody is released. Another note: It is quite unfortunate that I do not have much time to devote to Debian, which caused the dropping of traditional Chinese support last October, but I would really appreciate it if next time you could just disable zh_TW support from config and Makefiles and leave the .po file as is in the CVS tree. That way there would be less duplicate of effort in case someone wishes to take over the work I have left off. Also, I have internet access only on weekends, so you may need to exercise your patience if you wish to reach me; still comments are most welcome.
