can applications that are build against the upstream static glue find
 and use debian xulrunner?

They have to either use the standalone glue which will find it, or use
the dependent glue, link against libxpcom and libxul, and set the appropriate
rpath or LD_LIBRARY_PATH. I don't recommend the latter.

Subject: Please package xulrunner 1.9 in the upstream way

 Package: xulrunner
 Severity: wishlist

It would be beneficial to unify how xulrunner is packaged across linux
 distributions.

Since upstream is unlikely to adapt the debian way of shipping
xulrunner for various reasons, we should follow their idea on how to
 ship xulrunner.

A package that could be used is available in ubuntu and can be found
 at:

 https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xulrunner-1.9

 Thanks for considering this,
